What would we like…?

Do you have a track record of excellent teaching and delivering exceptional outcomes for pupils?

We are looking for a talented individual to join us a Tutor on a 12-month fixed term basis, to cover a period of maternity leave. The projected start date for this role is September 2024.

You’ll have experience of teacher training and development, including coaching and mentoring of teachers. You will work with educators at different points in their careers, supporting them to be as effective as possible in providing a high-quality education for their pupils.

Our programmes include support for teachers at the beginning of their career through the Early Career framework, support for the mentors of beginner teachers; whole school improvement programmes; and programmes for senior and middle leaders including the National Professional Qualifications. The post-holder will work on a range of these programmes.

Please note - this role can be performed either on a full-time or part-time basis. Part-time is 30 hours per week (4 days). 

We would like you to:

  • Build relationships of support and challenge with educators on our programmes in order to drive forward rapid improvements in their practice
  • Lead high quality training sessions to groups of educators
  • Ensure up-to-date and in depth understanding of approaches to training through independent study and routine engagement with design team materials and publications
  • Develop coaching practice within a portfolio of participants through effective training, the modelling of expert coaching with teacher educators and effective feedback to teacher educators employing the model
  • Working in a hybrid way, you’ll be attached to either our Birmingham, London or Manchester office and will report to either a Associate Director or Senior Tutor. In line with our current ways of working, you’ll be expected to be in the office at least 1 day a month, in addition to team days and this may be reviewed by Ambition.

The successful postholder will deliver, roughly, 70% of training online and 30% face to face. Face to face session take place across England, with tutors working primarily in their region of the North, West Midlands or London and the South. We encourage use of Flexible and Agile Working policies to balance workload and working pattern.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

To succeed in this role you'll have proven experience in teacher training and development, including coaching and mentoring teachers. You'll have experience of curriculum/assessment design and able to analyse teaching skills/lesson moments. It is essential that you are educated to degree level and are qualified to teach in the UK. Whilst experience as an instructional coach is desirable it is not essential for applying to this role.
