Job overview

Do you want to make a real difference to children? Are you dedicated and passionate about providing the best learning opportunities for young people? If so, we would like to hear from you! Freshsteps Independent School is an OFSTED graded ‘outstanding’ independent alternative provision. The school caters for pupils aged 5-19 years who have a range of SEN needs. We have an exciting new opportunity available at our school to work with pupils with SEMH as a Functional Skills English and Maths Tutor for our Sixth Form pupils and those on our age 14-16 alternative curriculum programme.

The school has recently moved site and has invested in the construction of brand new classrooms, sports arena, gym area, library area and an indoor therapeutic, split level soft-play structure. We are in the process of designing our brand new outdoor MUGA and playground. The school is fully resourced and equipped and continues to expand the provision provided to pupils, having just opened a brand new sixth form hub.

Our pupils have been referred from mainstream schools due to various needs including ADHD, low numeracy, literacy and speech and language. They have wonderful personalities and enjoy the benefit of an engaging, hands-on learning style and adapted curriculum. The school believes that every student can realise their true potential with the right support and teaching. Therefore, it sets high standards for both pupils and staff.

The curriculum at FreshSteps is very rich including horse-riding, cookery, boxing classes and we work in partnership with a range of external agencies. We also have our own onsite art therapist and specialist speech and language base.

The school received three consecutive ‘outstanding’ ratings from OFSTED which stated that the school ‘inspires pupils to achieve more than what they believe they are capable of’:
