This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the major providers of education and training in Yorkshire and Humberside.  York College is one of the largest Colleges in the region offering over 40 A Level subjects and 80 vocational programmes. The College also delivers a range of Traineeships and Apprenticeships and works effectively with over 1,000 employers, helping them to recruit apprentices and provide bespoke training for their employees. It also offers a range of Higher Education courses for full and part-time study as well as many Adult Learning classes.

Graded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in December 2013, the College has a £60 million building with first-class resources designed with post-16 students in mind. This, combined with the highest standards for individual student achievement, provides an outstanding environment for teaching and learning.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity for an exceptional tutor to help shape our Grade 1 division and join our Outstanding College. If you are dedicated to transforming the life chances of our students and are looking for a challenge, then we would like to hear from you.

We are seeking to appoint a highly-qualified, committed and inspirational tutor to teach A’ level ICT/Computing programmes and Vocational Diplomas at Level 3. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record of teaching and assessment of A level courses in both ICT and Computing subject areas. Tracking progress of tutees and raising value added for students through building highly motivational, inspiring, challenging and interactive lessons is key to the success of this post.

To meet the demands of this role you will need good interpersonal and communication skills, and be flexible and highly organised in your approach. You will have the ability to communicate a broad range of practical and theoretical issues relating to Information Technology/Computing.  You should have an understanding of current educational issues together with a minimum level 5 qualification in a relevant subject area. 

The role is initially fixed until 30 June 2017, with the possibility this will be made indefinite.

  • In 2010/2011 we have 6,695 students, of which 4,269 are full time. In addition we have 601 on Higher Education programmes and 136 International students. Support for learners, in the form of a Learning Centre, guidance and counselling and individual support, is a strong feature of the College.
  • We offer courses across the full range of Further Education provision, with the exception of Land Base Studies. The College has an extensive range of employer engagement activities. Strong links have been built with the business community over many years through our commercial and tailored training offer.
  • We employ over 1,000 staff. Of these, 650 are salaried - employed on a full time or part time basis. We also employ around 360 part time variable hours staff, about half of which are teaching staff employed on a sessional basis.
