About the role

We have a vacancy that can be worked on a Full Time or Part Time basis.

On a Full-Time basis, the University Access Officer would work 5 days a week. 2 days per week would be at Shirebrook Academy and 2 days per week would be at Mansfield and Ashfield 6th Form College (part of Vision West Nottinghamshire College), and working from home on Fridays.

On a Part-Time basis, (three days a week), the University Access Officer would work in one of the schools listed above for 2 days and working from home on Fridays.

University Access Officers mentor A level students and deliver group workshops, and coach them on how to access and transition to university.

Shirebrook Academy currently uses our KS4 programme working with students at GCSE Level who may be encountering this kind of support for the first time.

Mansfield and Ashfield 6th Form College currently uses our KS5 programme working with A-Level students and helping them with their UCAS applications as well as sixth form education.

The University Access Officer works with college staff at all levels, volunteer and paid tutors, and with the rest of The Access Project’s team to ensure that the delivery of the programme is optimised.

● We work with schools to remove the barriers disadvantaged students face in reaching their full potential, and in doing so, help to create a fairer society.

● Your skills, mindset and commitment to our vision of widening student participation in higher education will be vital in delivering our programmes in the schools. 

● The full time salary is £23,000, pro-rated to £13,800 for 3 days. 

Main responsibilities

● Coaching, mentoring and motivating students from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their academic potential

● Plan tasks and manage your time effectively 

● Communicate with the volunteer tutors who provide weekly one to one online tuition to the students

● Build excellent relationships with school staff and keep records up to date for regular reporting

The Access Project provides a comprehensive training program to enable you to develop your skills and succeed in the role. 

All applicants will need to have a University degree or suitable professional experience, and experience of working or volunteering in schools or the education sector, including knowledge of the UCAS process.
