THE SCHOOL
Manor School is a large town school.  It is on two sites – a red brick Victorian infant building and a 1960’s junior building.  They were separate schools twenty years ago and were amalgamated under one headteacher.  The sites are separated by the width of a cul-de-sac road. There are on average 485 pupils on role and class size averages 25.

Both sites have their own playground, hall, library, offices and staff rooms.  The junior site has a computer room (which can accommodate a class), a large field, an environmental area, an independent pre-school (Ladybird) and a caretaker’s bungalow.  Infants use the junior site facilities e.g. the computer room, the field (in summer) and the hall for the weekly whole-school assembly.

THE TOWN
Didcot is attractively situated in the Thames Valley, close to the Berkshire Downs and surrounded by picturesque villages.  Having a main line railway station, it is conveniently placed for travel by fast trains to London and the West Country.  The A34, M40 and M4 are near at hand and Oxford, Reading and London are within easy reach.

Recreational and leisure facilities in the town are provided by the swimming pool and leisure centre, the youth and community centre and a wide variety of clubs and societies.  The town centre has been recently re-developed to include an arts centre and cinema.  There are several attractive parks.  Didcot is well-known for its railway museum and its proximity to centres of scientific and technological research at Harwell and Culham.

Didcot is undergoing rapid expansion with an average 350 houses a year due to be built for the next 20 years.

CATCHMENT
The school is in an attractive setting in the old part of town. There are five other town schools.  Manor is very popular with parents, receiving the greatest number of applications for places. Over a third of children attend from outside our official catchment area.  The majority of pupils are of White British background.  There is a mixture of children from owner-occupiers and social housing.  14% of children are entitled to free-school meals, 13% are on the SEN register.

STAFFING

There are 3 Foundation, 5 KS1 and 11 KS2 classes. There is a balance of experienced and more recently qualified teachers. There are currently 2 non-teaching  Deputy Head teachers, 1 class based Assistant Head, 4 HLTAs, 30 TAs and 7 admin staff.  The headteacher has been in post since 1997.

RESOURCES
All classrooms have IWBs and a group of, usually 6, computers (in addition to use of the computer room). We have a non class-based Inclusion Teacher who leads on positive behaviour management through early intervention, a non-class based SENCo, a full time forest school leader and sports coaches providing PPA cover.
