As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Qualified Teacher to join our close-knit team at Acorn Park in Banham, Norwich as Upper School Lead.

Acorn Park is an independent, specialist day and residential school located in Banham, Norwich over a 30-acre estate. Acorn Park caters for children and young people aged 6 – 19 years who have communication and learning challenges associated with Autism. A place at Acorn Park Autism School ensures that a young person’s life becomes worthwhile, however mild or profound their autism, we have a range of facilities which support the way that children learn, socialise and play together. Our wrap around care and teaching approach enhances our children’s lives, making them as independent as they are able to be, and having a positive impact on the whole family.

About the Role

Joining our team of dedicated teachers, you will be responsible for providing high quality teaching and to ensure the effective delivery of the school’s curriculum.

You will also become a member of the middle leadership team and assist the Head of School in leading and managing the school. The teachers at Acorn Park are encouraged to take a creative approach, seeking ways to positively engage with and motivate pupils through lessons that promote learning and raise levels of attainment.

The ideal candidate will successfully set targets for pupil success and be confident in using their knowledge and expertise to monitor progress. We give regular feedback and encourage our young people to take a responsible and conscientious attitude to their own work and study.

Who we are looking for?

We are looking for a Qualified Teacher to be a part of middle management and assist the Head of School in leading and managing the school. We want someone who wants to spend time on developing creative learning opportunities for the most reluctant and disengaged  learners.

The successful candidate will have experience in teaching English or Maths at Key Stage 3 or 4. You will also be responsible for the line management of specific school areas.

No two days are the same at Acorn Park School so we want someone who can work at pace to turn ‘can’t do’ into ‘want to’ and is motivated by working with children with complex needs. You will be motivated by your belief that every child can achieve and reach their potential. The ideal candidate will be resilient, have a calm and engaging demeanour and enjoy working with children. The successful candidate will use an innovative style of teaching motivated by your belief that every child can achieve and reach their potential.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and young people with special educational needs, especially children with a diagnosis of Autism

Essential Criteria

  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Experience Teaching English or Maths at Key Stage 3/4
  • Training or Experience in Special Educational Needs /Autism
  • Experience working with ASD Pupils
  • Understanding of the National Curriculum and other educational initiatives and requirements
  • Ability to use ICT effectively for teaching
