Job overview

North London Collegiate School Jeju is one of the leading international schools in Asia, offering the same academically ambitious education and outstanding range of co-curricular activities for which NLCS in the UK is well known.

Founded in 2011 as a selective, co-educational boarding and day school, NLCS Jeju now caters for 1,350 students aged 4-18.  Although the School strives for academic excellence and intellectual challenge, with an average IB Diploma score of 37 last year and world-class IGCSE results, NLCS Jeju is equally concerned with supporting the development of the whole person and aims to inspire confidence, individuality and self-esteem in every student.

NLCS Jeju now seeks a Vice Principal (Academic) to establish an ambitious and vibrant culture of scholarship which will extend to ensure that a sense of excellence is engrained across all areas of school life.  As the senior Vice Principal, the post-holder will support the Principal on the future strategic development of NLCS Jeju and deputise for them across a range of duties.

The successful candidate will be a high-calibre leader who can inspire students and lead staff confidently and effectively, but with a flexible approach.  This person will have a successful track record of senior leadership and delivery, and be tenacious, with an international outlook and willingness to embrace new cultures.

NLCS Jeju was the first NLCS International School to open its doors in 2011. It is located on the island of Jeju, in South Korea, but its proud heritage is from the United Kingdom, where in 1850 education pioneer Frances Mary Buss established the North London Collegiate School.

In just a few years NLCS Jeju has earned a reputation as one of the most prestigious and successful schools in East Asia. IB Diploma results are outstanding and the school’s graduates are attending some of the world’s leading universities, including Oxbridge and Ivy League colleges.

In keeping with the NLCS philosophy, the curriculum is aspirational and provides significant academic challenge for students. Students sit iGCSE examinations at the end of Year 11 and follow the IB Diploma Programme through Years 12 and 13.

NLCS Jeju offers a highly competitive salary and benefits package including accommodation, flights, health insurance and free places at the school for teachers’ children.

Location

The school is located on the picturesque island of Jeju, in South Korea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also the first international school to be opened as part of the Global Education City on Jeju Island, which is becoming the centre of English education in Korea and the pre-eminent educational hub of Asia.

Jeju Island, 130km off the southern coast of the Korean peninsula, is often described as one of Asia’s best-kept secrets. Jeju’s temperate climate, natural scenery and beaches make it a popular tourist destination for South Koreans as well as visitors from other parts of East Asia.
