Accrington Academy is part of United Learning, a large and growing group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England. Schools within United Learning work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. By collecting expertise and combining resources, we help to make the tough job of teaching a little easier. With a shared curriculum and lesson plans from around the group available to all, our teachers have strong foundations to lead the engaging, rounded education our children deserve. Our intranet site, United Hub, is just one example of how we this resource and communicate across sites, helping to simplify processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance. We reward our staff: with wide career opportunities – between Primary and Secondary, Academy and Independent – better pay, benefits, and ultimately the satisfaction of helping every child at each of our schools to success and reach their full potential.

We are looking for an experienced individual who has a proven track record of outstanding leadership and can demonstrate significant impacts, who will work alongside the Headteacher to build on the school’s current achievements and drive the school forward on its journey of success.    This role will require leadership of whole school achievement and the ability to timetable the Academy.

Accrington Academy is part of United Learning, a successful national group of independent schools and academies which share a mission to bring out ‘the best in everyone’ and improve the life chances of the children and young people in their care.

Accrington Academy has a strong local reputation and has been oversubscribed for several years. We are a successful school, with expanding 11-18 provision, and the majority of students spend their entire journey with us. There is much to be proud of at Accrington Academy however a great deal to be done to ensure we achieve our aim of being a great school. United Learning is ambitious for the school as it builds on its strengths in line with our Framework for Excellence: promoting the best in everyone, powerful knowledge, education with character, leadership in every role and continuous improvement.

As Vice Principal, you will be an outstanding teacher and leader who has proven success within a key school leadership role. You will understand what makes first-rate educational provision and demonstrate a clear commitment to the school and its wider community. Your experience and enthusiasm for education will inspire and challenge the teams you work with.

Accrington is geographically situated within close proximity to Manchester and the delightful countryside of the Ribble Valley and the Lake District. As a result of strong travel networks, the location of the academy offers colleagues the ability to live in the vibrant city of Manchester or the calm of local villages and small towns.

United Learning is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. A DBS (previously CRB) check is required for all successful applicants.

We are a popular, vibrant and successful 11-18, non-selective school. Our motto as part of the UL family of academies is “The Best in Everyone”.

In March 2015 OFSTED identified that we were a ‘good’ school. The cornerstone of our success is that students enjoy school.  “Students’ attitudes to learning are positive. Students want to do well at the academy”.  – OFSTED MARCH 2015

We have developed a culture of “hard work” and “dedication” from our students and staff alike, where high expectations and a desire for success are standard and everyone is proud to belong to Accrington Academy.

We believe that everyone at the academy can be outstanding and we seek to draw out the full potential in everyone. We do this by instilling the following values in all our students:

  • Ambition
  • Determination to succeed
  • Respect for others, ourselves and the environment we live and work in
  • Enthusiasm
  • Confidence
  • Creativity
