Job overview

We are seeking an outstanding educational senior leader, with the drive, ambition and ability to turn vision into reality. Someone who is energetic, effective and a strong communicator; someone who has the skills to support, challenge and inspire staff to do even better; someone who is committed to removing barriers to education and attainment; someone with a strategic understanding of education combined with the passion for student achievement and wellbeing.

Woodhouse College is one of the top-performing sixth form colleges in England, with large numbers of students each year progressing to Oxbridge, medical schools and leading research-intensive universities. It is academic in focus and appeals to students who are ambitious and, in the main, intend to go on to higher education. Being 16-19 only, it has the characteristics of a very large school sixth form, yet it has scale, diversity and a liberal, tolerant ethos often associated with colleges.

The College...

  • Is one of the most successful, academic SFCs in England
  • Has excellent staff, management and governance
  • Enjoys a well-deserved reputation and is over-subscribed
  • Benefits from a sound financial position
  • Has well-maintained buildings on a pleasant campus in North Finchley
  • Is secular, diverse and committed to equality and inclusion
  • Has an outstanding pastoral support and extra-curricular offer
  • Is focused on continuously improving

Woodhouse College has formed a strategic partnership with Imperial College London to develop a maths school within our existing grounds. As a result, the College converted to academy status on 1st January 2021 and is run by the Frontier Learning Trust. The Trust is small, comprising two organisations: the College and the Imperial College London Maths School which is due to open in September 2023.

This is a rare and rewarding opportunity for an aspirational, inspiring and high performing leader, and it arises from our recent academisation and the growth of the trust.

Closing date: 9.00 am Monday 31st January

Longlist interviews: Monday 7th February (virtually)

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to Woodhouse College all day on Tuesday 22nd February and shortlist interviews will be held on Wednesday 23rd February.

The College is committed to equality and diversity and hence encourages applications from black and minority ethnic groups which are currently underrepresented. The College is also committed to the protection and safeguarding of young people.

The College is a member of The Maple Group of leading sixth form colleges in England.
