The Head of School and Executive Principal are seeking a well-qualified, innovative and inspiring new Vice Principal to take a strategic role in promoting the school educational aims and ethos (‘Strive, Achieve and Believe!’). The role offers the right candidate an excellent opportunity to help shape the academic thinking and practice at The Chalk Hills Academy, which is part of a growing and dynamic Multi-Academy Trust – The Shared Learning Trust.

You will join the senior leadership team in this newly available position, created due to the successful promotion of senior leadership colleagues. Supporting the Head of School in driving the Academy forward, you will have the necessary ‘can-do’ attitude combined with a passion to ‘get the job done’. This is a very exciting time for the school and its journey towards becoming a ‘world class’ Academy. It is a fantastic opportunity for a suitably qualified Senior Leader who wants to make a real difference to the pupils at The Chalk Hills Academy.  We are looking for a candidate with ambitions to be a future Head of School/Principal.  The main purpose of the post is to provide strategic leadership and oversight of the school’s behavioural processes whilst also developing (and later establishing) the ‘character and culture’ of our students such that it supports their personal development.

Key Duties

·        Through outstanding strategic and operational leadership ensure our behavioral systems are fit for purpose with a comprehensive focus on behaviour and attitudes, ensuring clear processes and systems to support good and outstanding practice is in place. This will include a strong focus on policy into action, rewards and restorative justice.

·        Through strong leadership improve the progress and achievement of all pupils in agreed phases of the academy ensuring they consistently make better than expected progress and improve the progress of under-performing curriculum and pastoral areas.

·        Be able to establish a clear framework for student ‘Character and Culture’ which is then easily communicated to all stakeholders and consistently embedded throughout the academy.

·        Oversee all behavioural policy and practice

·        Oversee the exclusion process ensuring systems are fair, transparent, robust and clear

·        Oversee the Academy’s student mental health policy/well-being and provision

·        Develop systems to ensure the Academy’s ethos is outstanding in relation to both a positive and respectful culture

·        Line manage and hold to account Assistant Principals and other key middle leaders ensuring they fulfill their responsibilities to a high standard.

·        All members of the leadership team to carry out responsibilities as and when directed by the Head of School or Executive Principal.

Be an experienced member of a senior leadership team

Leadership and Management: ‘GOOD’

  • The purposeful and caring leadership of the Principal and the senior team have created a strong academy identity and a positive ethos shared by all members of the community. The strength of leadership is recognised without exception by the academy’s staff. The atmosphere created allows teachers to teach effectively and students to learn well. 

Behaviour and Safety of Students: ‘GOOD’

  • The behaviour of the students is good. Students are calm and orderly when moving between lessons and at breaks and lunchtimes. They are unfailingly polite and courteous to staff and each other. The atmosphere in lessons is calm and studious, attitude to learning are routinely positive as students want to learn and these characteristics have a strong impact on their progress. 

Quality of Teaching: ‘GOOD’

  • Teachers help create positive learning environments in their classrooms. Constructive, trusting relationships have been developed throughout the academy and teachers and students share an expectation that learning will begin as soon as each lesson starts. Students are confident to engage actively in lessons and feel safe to venture answers to questions and make mistakes. Teachers are committed to improving their own skills and they regularly take advantage of the high quality professional development opportunities available at the academy. This has enabled continuous improvement in the quality of teaching. 

Achievement of Pupils: ‘GOOD’

  • The proportion of students that attain five or more good GCSE passes including English and mathematics is higher than the national level. When compared to other schools nationally the progress made between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4 at the academy overall is extremely high. Most ability groups make very strong progress and finish Key Stage 4 with standards of attainment which are above average.
