Job overview

Luton Sixth Form College is exceptionally aspirational for the young people it currently serves and we are deeply committed to extending our work in order to have an even greater impact on educational outcomes for our young people. Established in 1966 as the first sixth form college in the country, we have an impressive track record for quality and educational excellence.

Everyone at Luton Sixth Form College – students, staff and governors – embraces diversity and inspires our students to reach their full potential so they are well prepared for the next stage of their education. If you have an unshakeable commitment to improving the lives of young people, we encourage you to join us.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented curriculum specialist to join the Senior Leadership Team. In this key position you will be responsible for shaping the College’s curriculum and for ensuring that students receive the best teaching, learning and pastoral support possible, to enable them to fulfil their academic potential. This quality assurance and student support remit runs through the role, as the successful candidate will be the College’s Nominee, leading on self-assessment and inspection preparation and the College’s Designated Safeguarding Lead.  You will have high expectations and standards along with a natural ability to lead by example to motivate both staff and students.  You will relish the opportunity to play an integral role in helping the College to achieve outstanding status.

Excellent knowledge of data, effective teaching, learning and assessment strategies, and post-16 curriculum developments are therefore essential to this role.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have significant leadership experience and a proven track record in raising standards.
  • Have outstanding strategic ability to anticipate and lead change.
  • Possess the excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence necessary to lead and motivate a committed and highly skilled team of staff.
  • Have an excellent record of successful teaching within the 16-19 age groups.
  • Be committed to the inclusive ethos of the College and to the development of an environment in which diversity is celebrated and fairness and respect for others is paramount.

Expected salary range from £74,000 to £78,000 – Commensurate with experience plus a generous relocation package and an attractive benefits package including 38 days annual leave + bank holidays.

Luton Sixth Form College is a specialist Sixth Form College, providing academic and general vocational education for 16 to 18 year olds in Luton.

Established in September 1966, we are the oldest Sixth Form College in the country and have an enviable reputation for quality and excellence. We are also one of the largest, with more than 2,800 students taking a vast array of A Level and BTEC courses.

Our mission is to provide an outstanding education for young people at the College, and to work with other local providers to ensure that there are opportunities for all young people in Luton to succeed and progress.

The College is located in a quiet residential area in the north of Luton, with easy access from the town centre, A505, A6 and M1. Our site was redeveloped between 2008 and 2010 and the original grammar school buildings were replaced by a £56m campus offering state-of-the-art facilities and modern resources for staff and students.

We are an equal opportunities employer and we celebrate and value diversity. Our greatest asset is our staff and we want everyone who works at the College to develop their full potential. We run a regular programme of training through professional development available to teachers and business services staff alike, as well as a fund to support external CPD activities.

Other benefits our staff have access to include free on-site parking, a support network including a counselling service, a fitness suite and a range of sporting and social activities to participate in.
