Job overview

We have a very exciting opportunity for an ambitious, dedicated and progressive leader to join our senior leadership team as a Vice Principal. Responsibilities will be agreed with the successful candidate.

Soon to be established as a stand-alone academy trust, Desborough College is a very successful, rapidly expanding and oversubscribed 11-18 boys’ school serving the local community of Maidenhead with currently over 800 students on roll. In September 2018 there will be over 900 students and within 3 years we expect to grow to approximately 1100 students, including an expanding and co-educational 6th form. We are committed to an educational philosophy encapsulated by enjoyment, competition and achievement – The Desborough Way. We have close ties to Radley College (an all boys’ independent boarding school in South Oxfordshire) and Newlands Girls’ School (an all girls’ comprehensive school in Maidenhead). These relationships reflect our outward facing approach to school improvement.

We are looking for an individual who has:

  • Experience of senior leadership
  • A record of consistently outstanding teaching
  • A track record of raising standards of behaviour and developing character in students
  • Proven ability to lead and contribute to teams by building positive relationships
  • Passion, drive, patience and a sense of humour
  • An appreciation of progressive educational approaches
  • An appreciation of how to deliver an outstanding education for boys
  • The ability to lead our staff through a process of continual self-improvement, building strong internal and external learning networks.

We can offer you:

  • A forward thinking, friendly school with high expectations and an increasing reputation for  developing well-rounded students
  • A culture where all students and staff feel valued
  • A talented, high achieving and motivated staff
  • Aspirational, happy, well-behaved, confident and hardworking students
  • Supportive parents who work in partnership with the school
  • A competitive remuneration and well-being package.

This is an exciting opportunity to help deliver our vision and direction and the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in our School’s on-going success.

Further details about the school are available from the school’s website www.desborough.org.uk. Applicants should complete the application form and email, along with a covering letter of no more than two sides, to the Principal’s PA. If you require any additional information or would like to arrange an informal visit please contact Nicola Humphries, PA to the Principal via email: nicolahumphries@desborough-college.net

Values and vision

Desborough College’s crest reads “Strenuis Ardua Cedunt”, which translates as “Difficulties Yield to Diligence”. The school values single-sex education and believes that this provides a learning environment in which boys can thrive and excel.

The secondary school has links with Radley College, another boys’ school. This partnership offers the students of Desborough College unique opportunities to participate in activities with Radley’s staff and students, including joint lectures, sports coaching sessions and other extra-curricular activities.

Desborough College has four houses, promoting a healthy competitive edge between each house. The school endeavours to ensure each individual completes their school life with courage, respect, a good sense of fun, honesty, integrity and humility.

Ofsted report

Their enjoyment of school is supported by high attendance figures. Teachers have made good and rapid progress in raising standards across all year groups. Teaching is good overall and there is some that is outstanding in mathematics, drama and art.”
