We are seeking a strong and inspirational leader (maternity cover) to continue to drive forward our improving school, which is at the heart of a thriving multi-cultural community within Halifax.
We are now looking for someone who will:

· Maintain and develop a clear philosophy, enhancing our existing innovative practices
· Lead a dynamic, enthusiastic and dedicated team of staff
· Be committed to high standards of excellence in learning and behaviour for all our children
· Lead EAL provision
· Be responsible for and manage safeguarding
· Analyse and evaluate data and assessment
Visits will be taking place at the academy on Friday 26th January at 9.00am, Monday 29th January at 1.30pm and Wednesday 31st January at 9.00am. Interviews will take place on Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th February.

Welcome from the Principal
At Mount Pellon Academy we deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that enables all children to ‘be the best they can be’. The English and mathematics curriculum follows ‘mastery principles’: ensuring children have opportunities to embed learning before moving onto the next topic. The curriculum is inclusive and imaginative: stimulating young minds as well as preparing them for the modern world.
English
Literature lies at the heart of the school’s English curriculum: the children read both contemporary and classical British authors as well as literature from around the world. We foster a love of reading and provide our pupils with rich texts and a vibrant environment. The termly plan is split into units of work – enabling children to master a writing style before moving on.
Mathematics
There is a termly plan for each year group from Year 1 to Year 6. Each term is split into twelve weeks. As part of each overview, a significant amount of time is devoted to developing key number concepts each year. This ensures students build their fluency as number sense will affect their success in other areas of mathematics. Students who are successful with numbers are much more confident mathematicians.
The wider curriculum
The National Curriculum subjects are taught discretely and through topics, this ensures children become skilled in Science, Computing and the foundation subjects. The school is committed to developing an appreciation of visual and performance art alongside inspiring the next generation of historians and geographers. Throughout the curriculum British values of: democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs are interwoven.
We promote high-level thinking and use cooperative learning strategies to promote collaboration. This is complemented by a bespoke music program where every child in our school has the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument.
