Job overview

Vice Principal: Pupil Progress, Curriculum and Standards

Polam Hall School, Darlington

Polam Hall is an all-through 4-19 school that has been an integral part of Darlington’s community since 1848. Originally founded as a Quaker school it is now a member of Woodard Academy Trust and offers its students a learning environment where modern thinking and historic surroundings complement each other perfectly. Our commitment is to provide an outstanding education to every child, both inside and outside of the classroom.

As Vice Principal: Pupil Progress, Curriculum and Standards you’ll bring a keen eye and a fresh perspective to how we collect, report and interpret data to inform improvement and assess performance. You’ll work with colleagues across the full age range, sharing your expertise and building our overall capacity to use performance data to its full potential, and ensuring a consistent approach throughout the school. We’re open to new ideas and approaches, so there is a real opportunity for you to bring your personal influence to bear on this aspect of the school’s work. Confidence and professional credibility will be key in influencing and advising others, particularly when working outside of your own subject or age range specialism.

There is a distinct clarity within the school regarding how we want to improve standards and progress, and your role will be key to this – building expertise in colleagues and confidence in parents. You’ll be part of a recently restructured senior leadership team (with the Headteacher and two other Vice Principals), and you can expect to play a varied role across the school’s activities, including leading on timetabling. Whether your own background is in primary or secondary, it’s important that you bring a good understanding of curriculum development and key performance measures across all stages and a track record of successfully raising standards and improving outcomes for pupils.

Visit www.polamhallvp.co.uk to find out more or contact Rachel Singer or Raymond Kelly at Navigate on 0113 287 8445 for a confidential discussion. Closing date: 23 October (midday).

We have 790 pupils on roll, with one and a half forms of entry in our Primary Phase and four forms in our Secondary Phase. Polam Hall is a school with a unique and long history which today is proud to be a fully comprehensive school serving the young people of Darlington. Our mission is to educate the whole child, developing leadership, compassion, character and academic ambition, through the combination of our Academic and Concordia Crescimus curricula. We have high expectations and aspirations for every member of our school community.

Polam Hall is a community where staff and students work together for common goals. We make every effort to develop our staff team, offering professional development opportunities and the chance to be part of a wider Trust, yet retaining the friendly atmosphere of a small school. We are looking for energetic and enthusiastic people to join our team, who have children at the heart of their practice and who will help us to drive forward our aim: to deliver an outstanding education to every single one of our pupils.
