The Kindergarten is attended by children aged 3-5 years for five sessions per week either in the morning or afternoon session. The kindergarten follows the IB PYP Curriculum and is an IB PYP Authorised school.

Vice Principal / PYP Coordinator (Starting Aug 2019)

Responsibilities

The Kindergarten requires a Vice Principal with a 50% classroom responsibility starting in August 2019. The position will be a full-time two years contract, renewable by mutual consent.

Role Summary
• Consistently champion and uphold the school’s core values and foster caring, positive relationships.
• Support the schools mission statement and IB Learner profile
• Develop and articulate a shared vision and strategic development plan for the school and lead colleagues in achieving this.
• Act as a pedagogical leader
• Create an atmosphere of mutual trust where collaboration, discussion, debate and teamwork are promoted within the school.
• Model exemplary professional practice.
• Contribute to the creation of the school’s learning community, fostering a spirit of inquiry, innovation, professional learning and reflection.
• Promote high standards and expectations through supporting performance

Leadership
• To be the Principal designate as required
• To ensure quality teaching/learning and assessment
• To develop teachers’ and educational assistants’ professional knowledge and skills
• To develop and present effective staff development programs
• To develop and present effective parent workshops and information sessions
• To develop effective teams and ensure the successful implementation of the School Development Plan

School Management
• To lead the Primary Years Programme throughout the school
• To actively lead curriculum development across the school
• To attend and lead planning meetings as required
• Ensure professional learning through collaboration and self-evaluation
• To coach and mentor staff
• To review teacher’s planning as required
• To support the teaching and learning of students across the school
• To develop the teaching timetable as determined by the Principal

Requirements

• Understanding of IB/PYP and/or inquiry based learning
• Understand the needs of young students
• Leadership and management skills
• Ability to motivate, inspire and build capacity in others
• Learning agility
• Professional integrity
• Commitment and passion for the education of young children
• Visionary thinking / strategic orientation
• A positive and optimistic outlook and warm personality
• Problem Solving and reflection capabilities

Applications are accepted from teachers with a Bachelor Degree in Early Years Education or equivalent which qualifies them to teach 3-5 years of age. A minimum of 4 years teaching experience and leadership experience would be an advantage.

About Abacus International Kindergarten - ESF

ESF Abacus International Kindergarten’s programme is for children aged 2 years 9 months to 5 years of age. Children attend for three hours per day, five days per week. The average class size is 22 children and classes are structured into K1 and K2 groups.

Abacus is authorised to deliver the IB Primary Years Programme, providing an inquiry-based and highly interactive programme. Children learn through play experiences and are encouraged to discover, experiment and reflect on their learning. Our aim at Abacus is to encourage children to become confident and independent learners. We teach children to respect themselves, others and the world around them and to work hard to reach their full academic potential.
Abacus offers two streams in both K1 and K2: English and Bilingual.
