Job overview

Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge

Role:

Vice Principal / Senior Vice Principal (Student Support)

Start date: September 2021 or earlier if possible

Salary: L20-L24 (£67,364 - £74,295) or if appointed as Senior VP L26 – L32 (£78,025 - £90,379) Starting salary negotiable

Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge is an ambitious and inclusive 11-16 school that has 800 pupils on roll and is over-subscribed in years 7, 8 and 9. Following a period of support from Trinity MAT, the school formally joined the Trust in 2018. There has since been significant improvement in outcomes, meaning the academy can now be recognised as one of the most improved schools in the country. Aspirations and ambitions are high; however, the school is determined not to rest on its laurels and is continually striving for ways to better serve the students. It is now seeking to appoint an exceptional Vice Principal or Senior Vice Principal to be part of that and to provide the strategic leadership for all aspects of Student Support.

The school is committed to providing outstanding pastoral care for its students and has invested significantly in establishing and developing a committed and hardworking pastoral support team, guided by the core values of Empathy, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, which permeate every aspect of school life. This is a fantastic opportunity for a high-performing individual with the strategic vision to further raise standards of student attainment and achievement across the academy, providing strong leadership for pastoral and SEN provision, and for student attendance.

Trinity MAT is a high performing and successful cross-phase trust. The trust also collaborates extensively with schools across the country through the Trinity Teaching School Alliance, West Yorkshire Maths Hub and White Rose Maths initiatives. Each of the trusts’ secondary schools consistently achieve academic results which place them in the top 10% of highest performing schools in the country, recognised by awards such as the World Class Schools Quality Mark and TES Secondary School of the Year.

As a Vice Principal, the school and the trust will place great value on your professional development and you will receive excellent support from the Principal and other MAT colleagues. This role will appeal to a number of prospective candidates: an assistant principal seeking progression and their next challenge, or a current deputy/vice principal looking to hone their leadership skills. For candidates with the necessary experience for appointment as Senior Vice Principal, this role would offer additional responsibilities and development opportunities so that, if they choose to, they would be ready to lead their own school within three years.

If you are a senior leader in a secondary setting, with the vision to drive the strategic direction and development of the academy’s student support provision, this role offers an outstanding opportunity to play a key role in the further development of Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge. You must be fully committed to optimising the opportunities that are available to children and young people, secure in the knowledge that you will be joining an ambitious forward-thinking Academy Trust. The successful candidate must be passionate about improving students’ life chances through the provision of the highest quality of education and committed to achieving excellent results for the students. You must have a strong work ethic and high expectations of yourself and others and have the ability to lead staff and students in realising those expectations.

Closing date – 8am, Monday 1st February

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check

The Trinity MAT were first approached to work with the then Sowerby Bridge High School, when it had been graded as inadequate by Ofsted and had been ranked in the bottom 15% of all schools nationally.

After joining the MAT in 2018 the progress made has been outstanding. The academy has improved its Progress 8 outcome by 0.92 and the performance puts us comfortably in the top 1% of most improved schools in the country.

In September 2021 we will be adopting the new name of Trinity Academy Grammar to better communicate our identity, high standards and aspirations for our students. We have chosen a name which truly reflects our grammar school heritage, and to better showcase our core values of Empathy, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, as we continue to build on this legacy through our outstanding achievements and passion to help our students reach their full potential.

It is a very exciting time to be considering joining Trinity Academy Grammar.  We can offer candidates the opportunity to work in partnership with the Principal and the senior leadership team, teachers in the school and other professionals across the trust (including the Teaching School and West Yorkshire Maths Hub).

The working environment is supported by committed, hardworking and supportive colleagues who are focused on improving outcomes for our students. Comprehensive pastoral systems are embedded to ensure the behaviour of students is outstanding and they are happy and supported in their learning.

As an academy we have high expectations of staff, we expect staff to challenge our students and themselves. We set high standards and aim to display these in all that we do. Working for Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge is rewarding, we can offer a fantastic environment, excellent CPD programmes and a range of opportunities to progress. These ambitions are shared across all schools within the trust.
