Job overview

Trinity Academy Cathedral

Vice Principal: Culture & Standards

Start date: September 2023

Salary: L20-L24 (£70,733- £78,010), starting salary negotiable

Trinity Academy Cathedral is looking for a talented and ambitious senior leader to take on the exciting and pivotal role of VP: Culture and Standards. The role is vacant due to the promotion of the Senior Vice Principal to Principal, as the trust continues to develop and grow. Cathedral is on an exciting journey, having been awarded Ofsted outstanding in all areas in 2022. As a beacon of excellence, the academy continues to refine and develop its practice, as well as working with the wider group of schools within the trust, to achieve a truly world class education for our young people. Could you be the next person to join the team on this exciting and rewarding journey?

As lead for culture & standards, the successful candidate would hold the portfolio and strategic oversight for personal development and pastoral care within the academy, leading our already successful team of staff to further enhance and develop our provision. We provide outstanding care for students and have invested significantly in establishing and developing a committed and hardworking pastoral support team, guided by the core values of Empathy, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, which permeate every aspect of school life. This is a fantastic opportunity for a high-performing individual with the strategic vision to further raise standards across the academy, providing strong leadership for PD, pastoral care and student attendance.

Trinity MAT is a high performing and successful cross-phase trust. The trust also collaborates extensively with schools across the country through the Trinity Institute of Education, West Yorkshire Maths Hub and White Rose Maths initiatives. Each of the trusts’ secondary schools consistently achieve academic results which place them in the top 10% of schools nationally. The successful candidate will receive excellent support from the Principal and other MAT colleagues.

This role will appeal to a number of prospective candidates: an assistant principal seeking progression and their next challenge, or a current deputy/vice principal looking to hone their leadership skills. For candidates with the necessary experience this role would offer responsibilities and development opportunities so that, if they choose to, they would be ready to lead their own school within three years.

If you are a senior leader in a secondary setting, with the vision to drive the strategic direction and development of the academy alongside the Principal and Executive Principal, this role offers an outstanding opportunity to play a key role in the further development of the academy. You must be fully committed to optimising the opportunities that are available to children and young people, secure in the knowledge that you will be joining an ambitious forward-thinking Academy Trust. The successful candidate must be passionate about improving students’ life chances through the provision of the highest quality of education and committed to achieving excellent results for the students. You must have a strong work ethic and high expectations of yourself and others and have the ability to lead staff and students in realising those expectations.

For a confidential discussion about the role, please contact Rob Marsh, Executive Principal, at epeast@trinitymat.org

Closing date: Monday 27th February 9am

Interviews: To be confirmed

Trinity Multi-Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointments are made subject to an enhanced DBS check. We are an equal opportunities employer and want our staff profile to reflect the community we serve.

Trinity Academy Cathedral joined the Trinity Multi Academy Trust in 2016 and soon showed a dramatic improvement by becoming ‘The Secondary School of the Year’ in the country by TES in 2019, followed by SIAMS Excellent in 2020. The Principal and staff set an ambition to be outstanding, consistently improving academically and pastorally.

In May 2022, after six years of hard work by staff and students, the academy was awarded Outstanding in all areas: this was a testament to setting high standards, a compelling curriculum and full pastoral programme to prepare students for the future.

Our academy is now a place of high expectations and excellent progress that places us comfortably in the top 5% of UK secondary schools every year. Behaviour is excellent and achievement is high.

Guided by the MAT’s core values and our own strong Christian ethos, we work hard to ensure our students become happy, fulfilled and well-rounded people. Innovative initiatives such as Masters of Recall and CAPA Juniors (Performing Arts pathway) help maximise opportunities for every child.

High quality CPD is an integral part of the staff experience at TAC, as it is in all Trinity schools. Our bespoke CPD curriculum is tailored to the needs of individual staff at all career stages. We are heavily led by research into how learning happens, and continually refine our practice to ensure we are masters in the complex craft of teaching. We invest significantly in ‘Subject Passion’ sessions, through which CPD is delivered with an expert disciplinary lens.

ECTs are supported through a powerful and impactful training programme, which includes a 1:1 mentor, plentiful opportunities to see others in the classroom, conferences, and additional PPA time. All new staff also benefit from a supportive induction programme throughout the first term and beyond, recognising that no matter your experience, we are all novices when we start in a new school!

We are highly committed to staff well-being and workload, and through our staff well-being charter, we strive to ensure Trinity Academy Cathedral is a supportive, fulfilling and inspiring place to work.
