Job overview

Applications are invited from excellent school leaders who are experienced, enthusiastic and innovative teachers, keen to develop their leadership skills.

OFSTED 2014/2015: "At the heart of the school's values is the firm belief that everyone must have an equal opportunity to succeed. The achievements of all pupils are outstanding, including those who are disadvantaged."

Archbishop Sumner school (ABS) is an outstanding two-form entry Church of England primary school in Kennington, Lambeth, just a short walk from the London Eye and Houses of Parliament.  The area is undergoing transformation and the school is home to children who are lively, highly enthusiastic and come from a truly diverse range of backgrounds.

Our vision is for each child to gain self-belief, achieve their full potential as a child of God and to become a valued member of the community.

Our new Headteacher will be a forward-thinking leader able to deliver a clear strategy and inspire the next generation of pupils. They will ensure that all pupils receive an outstanding education that equips them for life academically, spiritually and morally, with inclusivity at the heart of the school.  They will be an outstanding child-centred classroom practitioner who can motivate, develop and retain their staff team and engage the diverse parent/carer group that makes up our school community.  They will seek out and grasp all the opportunities our location offers, including ways for the community to engage with the school.

The school recently expanded to two-form entry and needs to navigate the complete expansion of the school across two adjacent sites.  Further, we know that our funding may change, whilst experiencing increasing demand for SEND provision.

The Headteacher will need to be sympathetic of the Christian ethos of the school and will be well supported by the excellent relationship the school has with the local church in the parish of North Lambeth in all aspects of worship and in meeting pastoral needs of school families.

Our school prides itself on having a welcoming atmosphere. We have a broad curriculum that values and achieves excellence in music, art and sport, and we have extended school provision of more than 40 clubs.  ABS is a vibrant and busy school and we want a Headteacher who takes great pride in the school and has the vision, energy and skills to make sure we all flourish.

An application form and pack providing more detailed information about our school and the post, including job description and person specification, are attached. These can also be obtained from our School Business Manager, Hazel Thompson, on 020 7735 2781, email: hthompson@absprimary.school
