Job overview

This is an excellent opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic person to join one of the UK’s most vibrant and successful prep school music departments.  The school is co-educational from Reception to Year 8, of 260 pupils. Among them are the boy choristers of St Paul’s Cathedral. Music permeates the whole life of the school and is central to our ethos.

Following the retirement of the current post holder after 27 years’ service, we are seeking an outstanding 'cello teacher to teach individual lessons to pupils aged 5-13. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic about teaching and learning, keen to continue to develop their own pedagogy and have the drive to develop their pupils, from complete beginners to grade 8 standard.  Experience of both individual and ensemble teaching at this age group is desirable.

The anticipated schedule is approximately 1 full day per week, or 2 shorter days.

The School is set in the grounds of the iconic St Paul’s Cathedral and is a successful, happy and supportive place to work.  Our Music Department’s exceptional reputation is built upon (but not exclusive to) the professional standards set by our world-famous Cathedral choir. If you have highly effective teaching skills, the ability to inspire, empower and motivate students and an enjoyment of working, particularly with young people, we would welcome your application.

Further information about the school can be found at: http://www.spcslondon.com

Please complete the application form online through TES by clicking Quick Apply. If you have any questions, please contact the Director of Music for more information.

Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Baring Service.

About St Paul's Cathedral School

St Paul’s Cathedral School is a co-educational, Church of England, independent preparatory day school for around 250 children aged 4-13, located in the City of London. It has boarding provision for St Paul’s Cathedral boy choristers, who sing daily at the cathedral, from the age of seven. From September 2023, girl choristers have begun to sing in the cathedral.

The school is owned by the Dean and Chapter of St Paul’s Cathedral; its governing body is made up of five Canons and seven lay members, who are chaired by the Dean. St Paul's can trace its origins back to the 12th century and it existed for several centuries solely to educate the cathedral choristers. It has been co-educational since 2002.
