Job overview

Merchant Taylors’ Prep, a leading Independent School for boys aged 3-13, is looking to engage a dynamic cello teacher to teach individual pupils of all abilities. This self-employed role also offers opportunities to engage more widely in the musical life of the School and willingly support the activities of the Music Department. The successful candidate will coach the School String Ensemble, participate in the delivery of our Year 1 Orchestral Instruments Programme and play an active role in concerts and events throughout the year.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced teachers to join our existing pool of 10 Visiting Music Teachers, who between them deliver more than 100 one-to-one lessons each week. Visiting Music Teachers are self-employed, invoicing the parents of pupils directly.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and experienced musician within their field with proven ability as a teacher and performer. We are looking for a professional with a genuine desire to raise the profile of their specialism at the School, to increase the number of pupils learning, and to raise the level of performance on the cello.

Start date: January 2023

Please apply by downloading our application form from the school’s website: www.mtpn.org.uk.

The closing date for receipt of application forms and covering letters is Wednesday 12th October 2022.

These should be sent by email to recruitment@mtpn.org.uk (for the attention of Mr Nicholas Stuart, Director of Music) or by post to Mr Nicholas Stuart, Director of Music, Merchant Taylors’ Prep, Moor Farm, Sandy Lodge Road, Rickmansworth, Herts WD3 1LW.

Candidates will be shortlisted and interviews will be arranged for the week commencing Monday 31st October 2022.

Suitable candidates may be interviewed before the closing date and Merchant Taylors’ Prep School reserves the rights to withdraw the position if an early appointment is made. Applicants are therefore encouraged to apply early.

Merchant Taylors’ School is an equal opportunities employer and committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. As this role will bring you into contact with children you are expected to share this commitment. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
