Start date: ASAP
Contract type: Part Time / Full Time
Salary: £35 per hour
Contract term: Permanent

The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) is a co-educational independent school with over 2,100 pupils between the ages of three and eighteen. Senior School and Junior School are located at Alwoodley Gates adjacent to open countryside on the northern edge of Leeds, and the nursery and pre-prep (up to Year 2) at Rose Court in Headingley.

Owing to planned expansion, GSAL are seeking a number of different Visiting Music Teachers on a self-employed basis. This is an outstanding opportunity to work with talented and enthusiastic students and teach pupils aged three to eighteen in a most vibrant and successful department in one of the best schools in the north of England. Vacancies exist for the following;

1. Jazz saxophone

2. Jazz trumpet

3. French horn 4. Lower brass (trombone specialist)

5. Flute

6. Male voice teacher

7. Double bass

8. Harp

9. Tuned percussion specialist

10.   Clarinet

Typically, the number of students secured is built up from low base (particularly with “minority” instruments using school assemblies for demonstrations and recruitment purposes) but workloads can expand considerably given the size of both the Prep and Senior Schools.  Due to the nature of the work involving weekly 1:1 tuition sessions, the successful candidates must live within a manageable commute to the school, typically within a 25 mile radius. They should also be well qualified in their musical specialism whilst being enthusiastic, adaptable and innovative in their teaching.

Please note that as an applicant you must be truly self-employed with your own public liability insurance and ability to invoice parents directly.

Application is by completion of the online GSAL application form, accessible by clicking ‘apply’ in the advert details on the school’s website.

Closing date: 12 noon on Monday 19th February 2018.

Interview date: interviews will take place w/c 26th February 2018

References and associated employment checks will be undertaken if shortlisted.  In addition to formal interviews there will also be an opportunity for short-listed candidates to see around the School and meet members of the department in your specialist area. Part of the interview procedure may also include an individual instrumental performance and teaching a pupil a short instrument lesson. Details will be made available with the call to interview.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and an enhanced DBS disclosure will be required along with an annual subscription to the DBS Update Service.

GSAL is an equal opportunities employer, selecting employees solely on merit irrespective of gender, ethnic origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation or age.
