Job Details

The Music Department at Bedales School is looking for suitably capable and inspiring Piano Tutors. There are a substantial number of lessons across the senior and preparatory schools which could be covered by one teacher or several. Successful candidates will be able to teach beginners and up to diploma level as well as having a wide range of repertoire to enthuse young musicians.  In addition, there is a strong requirement for jazz piano teaching as well as a more traditional approach to piano lessons.

There is some flexibility as to when this tutoring can take place and applicants are invited to provide information on their experience and their availability.  In addition, Bedales is renowned for its focus on music and arts and its student-centred approach to learning and candidates should also indicate how their teaching style would support and enhance this ethos.  Applicants should also indicate what age ranges they have experience of teaching, if they have a preference for teaching younger or older children, or if they are happy with all age groups.

Pre-Appointment Checks

All candidates will undergo a Safeguarding Suitability Interview and application for an Enhanced DBS and Barred List check and be asked to provide evidence they are eligible to work in the UK, on an on-going basis, at the shortlist stage of the selection process.

As per the school Safer Recruitment Policy all posts that work directly with children in a classroom setting or are responsible for instructing children are subject to a Prohibition from Teaching Check.

All staff have a key role to play in identifying concerns early and in providing help for children and are expected to act in accordance with the school Safeguarding & Child Protection Policies.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job candidates to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

Bedales School is an independent, co-educational, selective, day and boarding school for children aged 3-18. It is situated in Petersfield in Hampshire and there are 460 pupils on its roll. There are admission fees and scholarships and bursaries are available.

Bedales is a charitable trust and was founded in 1893 by J H Badley as a humane alternative to the authoritarian regimes of the late-Victorian public schools. Its founding ethos was, and still is, “Head, Hand and Heart.”
