Visiting Teacher of Flute

We are looking for an outstanding teacher or teachers of flute to join our thriving Music Department, within a highly successful girls’ school.  

Teaching is required both in the Prep School (Years 3-6) and the Senior School (Years 7-13).  

Some saxophone teaching on both sites may also be available for a suitably qualified candidate.

The role

The successful candidate will be an outstanding musician, an effective communicator, and an inspiring teacher, able to teach flute from beginner to post grade 8 standard.    

You will teach individual flute pupils throughout the school age range (Year 3-13).  Please indicate whether you are keen to work across the whole age range of Prep and Senior schools, or whether you are only interested in one of these.  Depending on the interests and skills of the appointee, there may also be opportunities to coach ensembles and to take part in school performances.

You will be engaged on a self-employed basis, term time only.  You will be responsible for creating your own timetable, in line with school guidelines, to ensure weekly lessons of 35 minutes (30 minutes at Prep) are taught to your pupils.  The number of pupils will vary due to demand but is likely initially to be approximately 6-8 pupils per week at the Prep School and a similar number in the senior school.

The school

Oxford High School is a high-achieving selective girls’ day school.  The Music Department is popular and active, with approximately 250 individual music lessons per week delivered by 25 visiting music teachers at the Senior School and 100 lessons per week at the Prep, where there are a further 10 visiting staff.  Some staff work across both sites.  The department offers a broad range of ensembles, from beginner to advanced level.  The senior ensembles regularly perform in prestigious venues around Oxford.  Practical and academic exam results are exceptionally strong; our most advanced pupils frequently gain places in national ensembles, and a number pass diplomas before they leave the school.
