Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic, conscientious and experienced Visual Impairment (VI) Learning Support Assistant to support the access and achievement of pupils with visual impairment at The Judd School.
You should have had experience in supporting children with visual impairment, including specialist VI technology and Braille.
You will provide targeted support to a pupil with visual impairment and help the child engage with the curriculum, develop independence, and feel confident and included throughout the school day.
Key responsibilities will include supporting children with a Visual Impairment and associated needs (as well as other children within the school) ensuring access, independence and playing a positive role in their pastoral and academic development.
This is a wonderful opportunity to work within an experienced and busy SEND department. We are looking for candidates with good communication skills and experience of managing students with SEND.
The Role
As a LSA (VI Specialist), you will:
Provide individualised support throughout the school day
Adapt and modify learning materials into accessible formats (e.g. large print, Braille, tactile resources, audio)
Support the use of assistive technology and specialist equipment
Promote independence, mobility, and social inclusion
Liaise closely with teachers, SENDCo, parents/carers, and external professionals
Contribute to planning and reviewing personalised learning strategies
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience supporting children or young people with visual impairment
Knowledge of Braille and/or experience with assistive technology (desirable)
A calm, patient, and flexible approach
Strong communication and collaboration skills
A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education
Employment type: Permanent, Term Time, plus inset days.

History
The Skinners’ Company, out of funds provided by the Sir Andrew Judd Foundation, founded the Sir Andrew Judd's Commercial School in 1888 in East Street, Tonbridge. The school moved to its present site in 1896 and became known as The Judd School in 1925. Under the 1944 Education Act the School became the first Voluntary- Aided Grammar School. Today it still has close links with the Skinners’ Company whose members make up a significant proportion of the Governing Body.
Admissions
The Judd School is a selective Voluntary-Aided Grammar School with approximately 900 boys in Years 7-11. There are around 500 students in the Sixth Form, which includes around 150 girls on average. A key enriching facet of the school is its openness to children from all parts of West Kent and beyond. Admissions are based on ranked 11+ score, with 157 places for 'Inner' area students and 23 for 'Outer' area (see website for further details).
