Job overview
Hours to be confirmed
Music is exceptional at Haberdashers’ and plays a crucial role in our community. It is a busy, buzzing department with 505 instrumental lessons and 45 ensembles running weekly.
We are looking to appoint a vocal and ensemble coach to inspire singing in our school. The ideal candidate would bring immense energy, passion, and enthusiasm to the role – someone who is excited to build a culture of singing and share with us their personal connection to music.
In addition to our excellent orchestras and chamber music, recent years have seen an incredible development in our jazz programme. We have undertaken several major recording projects that feature vocal performances – a music video of our take on the Motown classic Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, and most notably our recent Big Band recording session at Abbey Road studios.
Whilst we keep an open mind through this recruitment process, we would be particularly interested to hear from musicians with a background in gospel/soul music – there is a great opportunity to develop singing at the school using this style as a vehicle, making use of our excellent student rhythm sections, and working closely with our exceptional jazz team.
You may be a singer with a background in gospel music, you may have worked in pop music, or jazz – you may have worked in more traditional choral settings but have a versatile practice that can deliver across all genres – the most important aspect will be a personality that can lead our students and communicate a love of singing.

About Haberdashers' Boys' School
Haberdashers' Boys' School is a large independent school located in the village of Elstree, Hertfordshire. Founded in 1690, the all-through school educates around 1,200 boys aged 5-18, all of whom are day pupils.
The School has a selective admissions policy, with prospective students for the senior school expected to pass entrance exams across a range of subjects. The best-performing boys are interviewed to ascertain their suitability for a place at the School. Entrance to the pre-prep and prep departments is also selective, with assessed playgroup sessions and exams used depending on the boy’s age.
