Job overview

ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

The Bridge School is a Secondary Pupil Referral Unit providing education for young people who have been excluded, or who are at risk of exclusion from school. It also provides education for those youngsters who may require additional support because of their Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The school has high aspirations for our young people and believes in their potential. Reflecting this, the school has recently opened a Vocational Learning Centre and seeks to employ a motivated and industrious Vehicle Maintenance Tutor/Instructor who wishes to develop skills in our young people that will prepare them for employment and adult life.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The ideal candidate does not necessarily need to have experience working with youngsters with challenging behaviours, although this would be of benefit. More important is that they have well developed communication skills, being able to develop strong respectful relationships showing a balance of nurture and authority. The ability to present deep advocacy for our students whilst at the same time as presenting high expectations is fundamental to our approach. To be a calm, assertive and positive role model is crucial within this position.

In terms of your tutoring and teaching ability you will be able to continually engage and motivate our young people, by presenting progressive, creative and individualised learning opportunities. The ability to see the wide opportunities delivering a Vehicle Maintenance curriculum can offer, and make them reality in the workshop, would be one of the core outcomes the school expects.

Informal discussions with the Manager of the Vocational Centre and visits to the school are welcome.  These can be arranged by contacting Graham Casey (01928-581301 or 07741-172554).  Applications can be obtained from Louise Bleasdale, School Administrator louise.bleasdale@halton.gov.uk.

You should note that, if successful you will be required to obtain a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check or Enhanced DBS Check for Regulated Activity (formerly Criminal Records Bureau).  Further information about DBS checks can be found at www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its learners and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Our school is an equal opportunities organisation which welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
