Description

 To provide quality coordination and leadership for the effective delivery of Vocational Education Training within the school setting in accordance with the Diocesan RTO Policies and Procedures. St Joseph’s College Lochinvar was founded in 1883 by the Sisters of St Joseph and is a Catholic College that embraces the Josephite tradition. Currently catering for Years 7-11, from 2019 the College will move to the final component of the transition to a 7-12 model. St Joseph’s College is situated approximately 10 km west of Maitland and is a 40 minute drive from Newcastle via the Hunter Expressway.


Position Requirements 

A VET Coordinator must be able to demonstrate: 

  • Support for the Catholic ethos of the school and be willing to be involved in social justice initiatives 
  • High level knowledge of the relevant VET key Learning area/s and a proven capacity to improve student learning. 
  • High quality classroom teaching skills which enable students with a diverse range of needs to achieve their full potential and a proven capacity to improve student learning. 
  • An understanding of the requirements of Vocational Education & Training delivery for Stage 6 in accordance with NESA. 
  • An ability to meet the requirements for the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015 under the National Vocational Education & Training Regulator Act 2011. 
  • The capacity to ensure quality delivery of Vocational Education & Training for the Registered Training Organisation (The Trustees of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle Catholic Schools Office) by adhering to NVR Standards, under the guidance of the Compliance Officer for the RTO. 
  • A sound knowledge of competency based training and assessment. 
  • A sound understanding of the National Vocational Education & Training Regulations Act 2011 and RTO Standards 2015. 
  • A proven record of VET engagement. 
  • The capacity to reflect critically upon professional practice and commitment to ongoing professional learning and a high level knowledge of VET courses.
  • The capacity to lead and support faculty members. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills. 


Essential Criteria

  • applicants will need to comply with the Accreditation to Work Teach and Lead (formerly FEA ) and will need to work towards Accreditation at Category C – Accreditation for Leadership.
  • Hold a relevant training qualification of a VET Curriculum Framework and TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment or willingness to commence the relevant training qualification within 2 years of appointment. 
  • Ability to provide school leadership in VET delivery. 
  • The capacity to work collegially with the Diocesan Vet Advisory group. 
  • Be able to liaise with all key stakeholders for VET students. 
  • Proven ability and understanding of WHS obligations and the ability to implement risk management processes. 
  • Proven ability in the use of core Microsoft Office Suite programs. 
  • Current NESA and Working With Children number must be recorded on application. 
  • Be appropriately qualified as a four year trained secondary teacher. 
  • Evidence of completion of Anaphylaxis training certificate must be supplied. (https://etraining.allergy.org.au/login/index.php) Note: To start or return to working as a teacher in a NSW school, you must be accredited by NESA. 


Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of internal RTO audit processes. 
  • An understanding of School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships implementation in the school setting. 
  • A sound understanding of Trade Training Centre Programs and the impact on VET education within the school setting.

St Joseph’s Lochinvar is a mixed gender, non-selective, Roman Catholic, independent day school. The secondary school in the Hunter Valley Region of New South Wales currently teaches students from Years 7-10 but will also teach Years 11 and 12 from 2018. The school has enrolled about 210 Year 7 students for the past few years and has a waiting list for enrolment in other years.

The school dates back to 1851, when a convent was established on the site. The current school has a particular interest in improving education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Teachers are encouraged to learn about Aboriginal spirituality and include aspects of indigenous culture in their lessons.

Facilities 

The school is in the process of expanding to allow for extra classes for senior students. New classrooms and other facilities have been built over the past seven years as part of the transition. A new school hall can host more than 1,000 students. The school also has sporting fields and encourages all students to take part in team sports.

Curriculum

Students are currently graded at the end of Year 10 based on assessments. The school has a specialist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander curriculum which is developed in consultation with local indigenous elders. A wide range of sports are offered including swimming, cross country running, athletics, soccer, netball, AFL football, basketball, rugby union, rugby league, horse sports, baseball, water polo, cricket, hockey, tennis, golf, triathlon, touch football, volleyball and diving.

St Joseph’s Lochinvar aims to provide a Catholic education in the spirit of its Sisters of St Joseph founders. Describing its approach as “Josephite”, the school says it promotes education for life and offers a mix of academic, pastoral and co-curricular activities for students. Its tradition values each individual child and provides a learning environment for students of a range of needs and backgrounds.
