The Workplace is part of The SABDEN Multi-Academy Trust, a group of Outstanding & Good Special Schools and Alternative Provision in East Sussex. SABDEN is a supportive employer committed to high quality staff development and creating a warm, caring, supportive environment in which pupils and staff feel safe.

The Workplace is a newly opened, aspirational and innovative Alternative Provision Free School in East Sussex for pupils in years 9 to 11. The Workplace provide education that is industry-driven, rigorous in quality, based on partnerships and focussed on enterprise. It will offer pupils a strong basis of Maths, English, Science and IT alongside quality provision in one of six vocational areas (Hairdressing & Barbering, Hospitality & Catering, Construction, Automotive, Sports & Fitness and Arts & Creativity).

Pupils who access The Workplace will be identified as at being at risk of disengagement and exclusion from their commissioning school. We have high expectations of pupils via Workplace standards, to suitably prepare them for post-16 and the wider world of work. Staff will work with employers across industry to ensure that classroom practice replicates the world of work and ensure pupils develop relevant skills and knowledge.

The Role:  Vocational Instructor/Teacher: Construction and the Built Environment

We are seeking to recruit an experienced trades person and/or tutor with a clear understanding of Construction and allied trades. You will have the ability to share your knowledge and expertise to support students in achieving qualifications in Construction and the built environment. You will also demonstrate a willingness to undertake training and mentoring from qualified teachers to develop skills of planning and assessment. You will become a role model to groups of students, and will be able to model skills within your trade alongside the wider skills of employability (including professionalism, organisation and adaptability). You will be keen develop links with local employers from construction related industries and develop enterprise initiatives to enable pupils to get a taste of the world of work alongside formal qualifications.

We are looking for a start date for as soon as possible and initially on a fixed term contract until 31st August 2022.
