Role overview

Counselling aims to provide clients with insight, tools and reflective thinking allowing clients a deeper self-understanding and enabling them to better manage their mental health and wellbeing. We work in an integrative way. Central to the school’s counselling approach are the person-centred principles of empathy, congruency and an unconditional positive regard. We recognise that working in the land of interpersonal relationships is complex and layered with boundaries, however we model patience, compassion and humility. We are honest and we always work with the client’s best interests at the heart of our work.

Person Specification

It is essential for the successful applicant to:

  • Be either a trainee counsellor in the final year of a recognised theoretical model of counselling OR a qualified counsellor at diploma level or above 
  • Be competent in using a theoretical model of counselling in sessions with clients 
  • Demonstrate experience of supporting vulnerable people in a professional capacity
  • Manage case-load, core-monitoring and evaluation
  • Demonstrate a non-judgemental, congruent and respectful approach 

Although not essential, it would be advantageous to have training, or experience in:

  • Working with adults effected by mental health issues 
  • Working in education settings
  • Short-term therapy, CBT,  ACT,  Mindfulness
