St Oscar Romero Catholic School is a successful, over-subscribed school, enjoying a strong reputation within the local and Catholic communities. There are currently 980 students on roll and we have waiting lists in all year groups. Our Sixth Form opens in September 2024.

We are a strong Catholic community, in which every member of staff contributes to the spiritual and moral life of the school. We believe in “learning together” and there is a great emphasis placed on relationships and respect within our community. We have an extremely strong code of conduct, standards of behaviour are outstanding and our students enjoy learning.

Key facts about our school:

●      Outstanding GCSE results and an upward trend in all subjects

●      Progress 8 score of +0.98 in 2023, placing us as the highest performing school in West Sussex and in the top 2% of schools nationally

The school’s next inspection will be a graded inspection’

About St Oscar Romero Catholic School

Headteacher's Welcome Message

I am extremely proud to introduce and welcome you to St Oscar Romero’s Catholic School.

Our aim is simple, we want to be the best school in the country. This means that we can ‘hand on heart’ say that our students get a better deal than if they attended another school.

St Oscar Romero has been on an upward trend for the last six years. Last year, 86% of students achieved at least a Grade 4 (equivalent to a C grade or above) in both English and Maths and 60% of students achieved at least a Grade 5 (known as a strong pass) in both English and Maths. Departments across the school performed exceptionally well, with English, Maths and Science all securing results of 90%+ at a Grade 4+ or above.  Our Progress 8 score was +0.97, placing us in the top 2% of school's in the country.

In May 2023, Ofsted carried out a short inspection and concluded that ‘There is enough evidence of improved performance to suggest that the school could be judged outstanding, if we were to carry out a section 5 inspection now.’ Our last Diocesan Section 48 Inspection took place in July 2019 and judged the school as ‘Outstanding’ in every category. This was a first for the school and a proud moment in the school’s 65-year history.

As a Catholic School, St Oscar Romero’s is founded on Gospel values. We provide a nurturing environment of love, respect and discipline, where every individual is highly valued and our care and concern for others is central to our mission. We expect our students to work hard, behave well, dress smartly and pursue excellence in all that they do inside and outside of the classroom. Our culture is one of high expectations in all that we do.

I invite you to experience St Oscar Romero’s Catholic School first-hand by having a tour of our school and I look forward to meeting you in the future.

Mr Byrne

Headteacher
