Strathmore College is a residential and day college in Stoke on Trent.  The college provides for learners aged 16-25 years who have learning difficulties, emotional, social and behavioural difficulties/disability.

Aspris Children’s Services (an independent company which was formally Priory Education and Children’s Services) is one of the UK’s leading independent providers of specialist care and education for a reason. We recruit some of the most committed staff in the sector.

The cohort of learners’ needs include mild to severe learning difficulty/disability, Downs Syndrome, Autistic Spectrum Conditions, speech and language difficulties coupled with other health related, mental or physical difficulties.  The learner’s needs are increasingly more complex, with a number of learners who were NEET and those who were finding engaging in education and learning challenging. The College uses meaningful, practical learning activities to engage and motivate learners.

The role:

  • In conjunction with the learner, their families, Behavioural and Emotional Support Assistant and the wider Multidisciplinary team (MDT), responsible for devising, implementing and evaluating the support and safety plans and risk assessments to ensure that the learner’s needs are continually met in order to make progress and achieve their aspirations. (The Wellbeing Co-ordinator will work within a designated team, providing the Transition Team Lead with a 6 weekly concise update).
  • Responsible for the prompt review and update of risk assessments for learners as their needs and situations change.
  • Make direct observations of target behaviours in a variety of settings, obtaining information about the purposes (functions) the behaviour serves for a person, contributing to the MDT formulation and assessment.
  • With guidance and support from the tutors and team leads, deliver quality support and facilitate learning in accordance with the learner’s individual learning plan.
  • Contribute to the compilation of case studies to provide qualitative data to demonstrate positive outcomes.
  • Organise reviews of the learner’s Education Health Care plan with stakeholders by contributing to the compilation and presentation of relevant information.
  • Attend the learner’s progress meetings, working collaboratively with colleagues from education and support, to showcase the learner’s progress and achievement
  • Ensure that the learner’s voice is captured throughout the process and is supported to share their views where meaningful to others.
  • Demonstrate and model quality support and interventions which focus on enabling the learner’s to engage in meaningful activity and relationships within their peer groups and wider community.
  • Promote innovation through development of creative ideas, especially for the most challenging of situations.
  • Contribute to support of positive risk-taking for learners, working closely with the “Prevent Lead” to ensure that allocated learners needs are met in order to keep them safe from radicalisation and extremist views.
  • Work within a framework which allows learning from each incident of challenging behaviour and provides a post incident support system to staff.
  • Safeguard all learners.
