INDEPENDENT WELSH PAY REVIEW BODY

Appointment of Member (Welsh Desirable – Role Two)

Location: Pan Wales

25 days per year at £300 per day plus reasonable expenses

The Welsh Government is seeking two members for the Independent Welsh Pay Review Body (IWPRB) for Teachers’ Pay and Conditions. For this role (role 2), the ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable.

The role of the IWPRB is to consider issues relating to teachers’ and leaders’ pay and conditions in Wales, and to make recommendations to the Minister for Education and the Welsh Language. In so doing, it considers a wide range of evidence, including submissions from key stakeholders representing schools and the teaching workforce in Wales. These positions will provide an influential and intellectually stimulating challenge for the right individuals. You will directly contribute to the recruitment, retention and motivation of the flourishing Welsh teaching workforce.

Meetings are currently mainly held face to face with some held virtually and others blended. Meetings in person are likely to be held in Cardiff, and occasionally meetings are held in locations elsewhere in Wales which may require an overnight stay.

The Welsh Government believes public bodies should have members who reflect Welsh society - people from all walks of life - to help them understand people's needs and make better decisions. This is why the Welsh Government is encouraging a wide and diverse range of individuals to apply for appointments to public bodies. Applications are particularly welcome from all under-represented groups including women, people under 30 years of age, people from ethnic minority communities, disabled people and the LGBTQI+ community. The principles of fair and open competition will apply and appointments will be made on merit.

The Welsh Government is a bilingual organisation and acknowledges the importance of developing and growing bilingual capabilities in public appointments in Wales. Therefore, fluent Welsh language skills are essential for one post and desirable for the other. We welcome applications which demonstrate capability to work in both Welsh and English.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 28th November 2023. Applications received after this will not be considered. It is expected that interviews will be held in the week commencing 8th January 2024.
