Job overview

The successful candidate will lead the inclusion team, whilst also working closely with all academic staff to support them in delivering the effective differentiation of all lessons and resources. TBS is currently one of the few schools in Kathmandu to be able to provide an education for students with specific learning needs. This means our Inclusion Manager will play a vital role in the service we provide to our wider community.

The British School Kathmandu is a not-for-profit and a non-selective school, which has a rich history of educational excellence, compassion and kindness stretching over 55 years in Nepal. The British School Kathmandu currently educates around 550 students from ages 3-18 from over 40 different countries, from both local and expatriate families, who trust us to care for and educate their children. Our students achieve excellent results, consistently well above UK averages, but more importantly, they are kind and a delight to teach.

The school is a founding member of the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA) and a  fully accredited member of the Confederation of British International Schools (COBIS).

Salary: competitive including annual flights, comprehensive medical cover, housing, freight allowance and gratuity.

Aims

The British School Kathmandu is an inclusive school where staff, students, and parents work together in a safe, caring, and internationally-minded community so that each achieves their optimum in terms of learning and emotional, social, physical, moral and spiritual development. In this partnership, we seek to develop healthy and happy, well-rounded individuals who are confident, thoughtful adaptable and able to embrace and influence an ever-changing world. Our students will act with integrity, care for communities and the environment, and seek social justice for all.  Our motto is 'Excellence at the top of the world'.

Overview

The British School, Kathmandu is a not for profit, non-selective, coeducational school.  Around 550 students from Early Years to Year 13 attend school in our unique campus in the historical area of Patan, surrounded by the Himalayan mountain range. Our community consists of families from over 40 different countries and together we help develop young people who strive for excellence and are kind, through an emphasis on challenge, creativity, confidence, compassion, and community.

School structure

The school is generally two form entry throughout. The Primary School and The Secondary School are each led by their own leadership teams with a whole-school Principal leading both.

The Leadership teams oversee the monitoring and tracking of progress of each student and are responsible for the high quality of teaching and learning, along with the outstanding pastoral care. From Year 4 upwards, every child sits a Cognitive Ability Test (CAT4s) which enables the staff to assess the progress of the students, map their strengths and weaknesses and personalise their learning journey, so that it is appropriately challenging.

All appointed staff are enthusiastic, energetic and fully committed to delivering a high quality British education. Educational advisors from the UK and Commonwealth visit the school to share their expertise on best current practices in education. Our most BSO Inspection Report (February 2016) stated “The British School, Kathmandu is an excellent school: it provides an outstanding quality of education and demonstrates an exceptional flexibility in meeting the learning and personal needs of its students”.

We are situated in the Jhamsikhel area of Patan, approximately two kilometres to the south of Kathmandu. There is a wealth of activities available from art and sport to good restaurants and a busy social calendar. Whilst Kathmandu is a city, on the edges of the valley and beyond there is a beauty which exceeds all expectations; as Rudyard Kipling said, "The wildest dreams of Kew are reality in Kathmandu”.
