Job overview
Work Placement Officer
Work placements are an important part of the learning experience for all of our students here at Blackpool Sixth. After all, they help young people build the confidence and skills they need to get the jobs they want when they finish their studies.
We’re constantly looking to expand our range of work placements, which is why we want to grow our employer network across the local area. It’s also why we need you to take on this varied and hugely rewarding role. Establishing and building excellent working relationships with a wide range of businesses and voluntary organisations, you’ll identify and develop new placement opportunities. On top of that, you’ll liaise with teaching staff and students, match students to suitable placements and manage administration.
So this is your chance to make a real difference to young people as you support them to achieve their goals. Strong communication, influencing and organisational skills are clearly important - and your experience should include dealing with both young people and senior level personnel in business. You must also bring the tenacity and determination to achieve challenging targets, while first-rate IT abilities and a flexible approach to working hours are essential too.
Blackpool Sixth is a high-achieving sixth form college, giving our students an excellent springboard to future success. We educate the whole student, providing all with excellent teaching and opportunities for growth and personal development. We are relatively small in size, with just over 2,000 students, and are recognised by Ofsted as an outstanding sixth form.
As an Investors in People Gold Award organisation, we’ll give you full support to build your skills and knowledge. You can also look forward to being part of a progressive and forward-thinking college with a continuing £27 million development and exceptional facilities.

Blackpool Sixth is a friendly, positive and supportive place to work and is rated Grade One: Outstanding by Ofsted (2009). Staff are committed to the needs and aspirations of our students and supported by an extensive programme of staff development.
Staff are highly committed to the needs and aspirations of our students. The continued growth in student numbers and planned curriculum developments has enabled the sixth form to invest in new staff and new buildings. The college is designated as a Teaching School in partnership with Hodgson Academy and it's a really exciting time to be part of Blackpool Sixth.
All new staff are offered a thorough induction program; this is supplemented for Newly Qualified Teachers with a comprehensive series of training sessions throughout the academic year.
