The community of St Joseph’s Tobruk is seeking a Workplace Health and Safety (WHSO) School Officer to work closely with the principal and school community to undertake a range of WHS related tasks and duties. This includes additional Administration Tasks such as updating student health and medical information / alerts.


Key aspects of the role include but are not limited to:

  • The effective management of safety process and efficient record keeping;
  • Undertake WHS projects as directed by the leadership team;
  • Follow compliance requirements generated through WHS reports;
  • Undertake WHS review processes and recommend areas for improvement;
  • Undertake classroom safety audits and provide recommendations;
  • Assist and guide staff on the completion of risk assessments;
  • Organise WHS induction processes including first aid courses; and
  • Working closely with BCE WHS staff members.


The successful applicant will hold/have/or be prepared to obtain:

  • Senior First Aid Certificate;
  • Strong IT skills and experience; and
  • Certificate IV Workplace Health and Safety Certificate.


Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills with:

  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Safe work practices;
  • BCE systems such as guardian and compliance data base; and
  • Effective management of safety processes and efficient record keeping.

To be eligible to be considered for this role you will:

  • hold a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card prior to commencement;
  • be eligible to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment; and
  • have a commitment to and understanding of the ethos and traditions of Catholic Education.

Commencing January /February 2023

Position tenure:  Continuing

Weeks worked:  School term weeks only (holidays unpaid)

Tenure duration (where Fixed Term)

Total Paid Hours (per week) & days required: 10 hours per week - days negotiable for successful candidate.

Salary level, range or hourly rate: School Officer Level 4 - $33.52 per hour

Employment conditions: Diocesan Catholic Education Employing Authorities in Queensland Single Interest Agreement
