Description of Position

The World Languages Coordinator is part of the school wide Pedagogical Leadership team and is responsible for developing a unified ethos throughout the Languages team by building on existing good practice and a shared love of and commitment to the study of foreign languages and foreign culture. As well as establishing professional standards for the department he/she guides and monitors teachers within the department, supporting and encouraging staff in curriculum development and co-ordination of cross curricular approaches and developments. Further responsibilities include advising on timetabling, maintaining up to date schemes of work and Unit planners on managebac, ordering resources and ensuring that wall displays within teaching and resource areas effectively support the learning needs of students. As a pedagogical leader the WLC is required to establish an effective structure for department consultation and communication, including the chairing of meetings and monitoring of internal assessment and examinations, as well as recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of pupils to monitor the effectiveness of pupils’ learning 

Required Qualities

The WLC should be an active learner who is passionate about developing student learning, have a high level of intercultural understanding and be aware of the complexities and opportunities in an international school. They should be a team player, able to collaborate, take ownership and responsibilty as well being able to provide coaching and support where necessary. The WLC should be an excellent practitioner, an empathetic teacher and have a passion for supporting our students to develop their potential.
