We have a great opportunity for an innovative and inspiring HLTA, un-qualified teacher or graduate to join our school in supporting our learners to make excellent progress in one of our PAIL (Preparation for Adult Independent Life) Subjects. The Courtyard School is an Ofsted rated ‘Good’ and Challenge Partners rated ‘Outstanding’ special school in the heart of Islington, catering for pupils with austim and/or speech, language and communication needs. The school is undergoing an expansion programme and we are seeking to appoint either an experienced HLTA, un-qualified teacher or graduate to join our supportive team to develop this fundamental aspect of our provision. This is a unique opportunity to gain valuable teaching experience with the support of an experienced team in a beautiful and unusual setting.

 

You will:

• Feel passionately about transforming the lives of young people with a range of complex needs

• Be a flexible and creative thinker in order to maximise pupil engagement

• Have a relevant HLTA/NVQ Level 2 qualification or above / be a graduate

• Have some kind of teaching or tutoring experience

• Be reflective and proactive about creating and adapting lessons to suit the profile and interests of your learners

• Be able to work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team within the school and be flexible in your thinking and approach to teaching to ensure you reach our pupils using a diverse pedagogy of teaching strategies  

• Have patience, a sense of humour and an active and keen interest in the world and everything that happens in it!


You could/should:

• Have specialist knowledge and experience of working with young people with social or emotional and mental health difficulties. 

• Have a level of proficiency in ICT to cater for lessons which involve technology/learning platforms.


The role:

• Will involve teaching a topic-based curriculum based on history, geography and religious education, aligning it with the National Curriculum to groups of learners with a range of abilities.

• Will involve contributing to the organisation, management and delivery of lessons; marking work and giving appropriate feedback and creating an assessment system to monitor progress in the key knowledge and skills being taught.

• Will require a demonstration of a commitment to understanding each individual young person, ensuring the school experience motivates and engages them in learning whilst meeting their emotional needs.

• Will involve contributing to the systems within the school in order to deliver the school’s vision.

• Will involve utilising the school’s behaviour management systems in order to ensure pupils’ behaviour is regulated and learning is maximised.

• Provide class sizes of no more than 8 pupils.
