Sharples Science Specialist College is an over-subscribed, 11-16 mixed comprehensive with over 1,100 pupils on roll, situated in the North of Bolton. The school provides stimulating and innovative opportunities for learning, transforming the aspirations and educational outcomes for all students and the local community.  Sharples was judged ‘Good’ at its last inspection in 2019, with areas of outstanding practice.  

The governing board is seeking to appoint an outstanding, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to complement our dynamic team of pastoral staff in providing professional leadership of a cohort of students and tutors in order to secure a safe learning environment, a positive ethos, a high quality educational experience and constantly improving standards. 

The successful candidate will possess excellent organisational skills and will be able to relate well with groups of students to overcome barriers to learning and achievement and promote high standards of attendance, academic progress and behaviour. A key element of this role will be communicating effectively with a range of stakeholders, including staff, parents and external agencies. 

Additional days may be required to support learning projects in the evening or during  school holidays.

Sharples School is a successful and heavily over-subscribed 11 -16 mixed community school. Our focus is on high academic standards and providing a first-rate, all round education for children of all abilities. Each year our results place us in the top 5% of secondary schools nationally and we are always striving to improve. Teachers are highly qualified subject experts, and our facilities across the school are excellent.

In December 2023, Sharples School was recognised as the Secondary School of the Year at the Pearson National Teaching Awards, an accolade that was testament to the hard work of staff, students and the Sharples community.
