We are seeking a dynamic and committed individual to serve as the non-teaching Head of Year 7 at our school. The Head of Year 7 plays a crucial role in providing pastoral care and support to students transitioning into secondary education. This position does not involve direct teaching responsibilities but focuses on fostering a positive learning environment, supporting student welfare, and collaborating with teaching staff to ensure the overall well-being and academic success of Year 7 students.

Key Responsibilities:

Pastoral Care: Provide effective pastoral support to Year 7 students, addressing their individual needs, concerns, and challenges.

Student Well-being: Monitor and promote the well-being of Year 7 students, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Behaviour Management: Implement and oversee behaviour management strategies, promoting positive behaviour and addressing disciplinary issues when necessary.

Mentorship: Serve as a mentor and role model for Year 7 students, offering guidance and support as they navigate the transition to secondary school.

Parental Engagement: Foster positive relationships with parents and carers, communicating effectively regarding student progress, welfare, and any relevant concerns.

Collaboration: Work closely with teaching staff to support the academic progress and personal development of Year 7 students, participating in meetings and initiatives aimed at enhancing student outcomes.

Transition Support: Coordinate transition programs and activities to help Year 7 students adjust to secondary school life and academic expectations.

Data Analysis: Utilise student data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities to enhance support services for Year 7 students.

Community Outreach: Engage with the wider school community and external stakeholders to promote the well-being and success of Year 7 students.

Professional Development: Stay informed about best practices in pastoral care, student support, and education management through professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree (essential)

Prior experience working in a pastoral care or student support role within an educational setting.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.

Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to supporting the well-being and success of young learners.

Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.

Knowledge of behaviour management strategies, counselling techniques, and child development principles.

Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the school community.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, non-teaching position with responsibilities primarily focused on pastoral care and student support. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Leadership Team and work collaboratively with colleagues across the school.

This fully inclusive secondary co-educational school was established in 2018 to meet an urgent rising local demand. 

The site of our new building and extensive grounds is opposite Lloyd Park in South Croydon, with an excellent Tramlink service to and from East Croydon station (just 5-minute journey-time away,) and a short walk from several bus routes. 

Our £35 million building and facilities offer specialist teaching spaces for all subjects including Music, Dance, Drama, Science, Design Technology and Art.
