The British Embassy School Ankara is an award-winning British International School situated within the grounds of the British Embassy in Ankara, Turkey. The school follows both English National Curriculum and Cambridge Curriculum for pupils from Nursery to Year 11. In September 2025 we opened our first Year 11 cohort, delivering the Cambridge iGCSE curriculum. Children at BESA are happy, well behaved and achieve high academic standards.
The school was established in 1959 and is delightfully situated in modern buildings set in a rolling landscape of playgrounds and woodland in the heart of Turkey’s capital city. BESA is a member of the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS), a founding member of the Black Sea Schools Group and an accredited member of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS). BESA is currently seeking an experienced and committed SENCO to lead our well established Student Support team from September 2026. This position is a full-time role and is initially contracted until the end of August 2028 with subsequent annual renewals thereafter. A teaching committment will also be required and will be determined subject to the candidate's subject specialism and experience.

The successful applicant must:
Be a fully qualified teacher and Special Educational Needs Coordinator ( Qualified Teacher Status & the UK SEN award is essential )
Be an experienced SENDCO with at least 2 years experience working in this role in a UK or British International School. Experience of teaching in the primary or secondary age range is also essential.
Be experienced in delivery of the English National Curriculum, the Cambridge Secondary curriculum or in the teaching of iGCSE
Have excellent planning, organisation and communication skills
Demonstrate the ability to lead a team within the school and work within the wider extended leadership team.
Be committed to regular and ongoing professional development
Be a fluent English speaker

About British Embassy School Ankara
The British Embassy School Ankara is a co-educational, not for profit, international school located in Ankara, capital of The Republic of Turkey. It is inspected by the UK Independent Schools Inspectorate, most recently in December 2025.
First established in 1959, the school occupies a site on the grounds of the British embassy and currently hosts around 235 pupils aged 3-16. In September 2025 the school opened its first Year 11 cohort who will be taking their GCSE's this summer.
The school was founded in order to provide an education to expatriate families living in Ankara, although it does accept students from the local population as well. Although a relatively small school, it is able to boast of a wide range of different teaching and recreational facilities, including an indoor sports arena and numerous modern classrooms.
The British Embassy School Ankara follows the English National Curriculum in Primary with a blend of the National Curriculum and the Cambridge Curriculum in secondary including iGCSE. As a result, the school offers numerous high-quality core subjects as well as some wider options.
The school teaches in English, and provides proper support for students speaking English as a second or third language. There is also support provided for students with additional learning needs.
