Location: West Hampstead, London - Camden

Contract type: Fixed-term commencing September 2024, full time, subject to an enhanced DBS check. The fixed term contract is for one year, with a view to make the role permanent in 2025/26. 

We are seeking to appoint a highly-motivated, inspirational and successful school leader who can work with the Leadership Team as Assistant Head (teaching and learning) to bring our vision for high quality education for all West Hampstead children to life.

Are you an enthusiastic and highly motivated teacher with high expectations, who is looking to work at a school where you can make a difference to children's lives? 

Our leadership team are collaborative, creative and motivated by improving children's life chances. The team consists of the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, School Business Manager and three Assistant Headteachers (one Inclusion lead and two phase leaders).

Our staff are a friendly, collaborative team who value being part of our professional learning community. 


The successful applicant will:

• Demonstrate leadership and management ability

• Be an exemplary and creative classroom practitioner who can make learning and teaching effective and fun 

• Have the vision, drive and energy to build on our achievements

• Possess the ability to communicate a strong vision of success to pupils, parents and the wider community

Responsibilities include:

• Phase leader of 2-3 year groups

• Class teacher (part time)

• Raising standards of attainment and progress of pupils in the phase and across the school, including oversight of assessment for the phase alongside the school’s Assessment Lead

• Supporting and advising teachers and support staff in the phase in the delivery of a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum to pupils 

• Establishing and maintaining effective liaison with staff and parents across the phase

Responsibilities could include:

• Leading an area of teaching and learning across the school as outlined in the School Improvement Plan for the year

• Leading a whole school project as outlined in the School Improvement Plan for the year

What will the interview process involve?

Interviews will take place on the week beginning Monday 20th May

Interviews will be in person and will include a lesson observation and a panel interview. The lesson observation will be the first part of the interview and successful candidates will then be invited to the panel interview.

West Hampstead Primary School is a larger-than-average, two form entry, multi-cultural, mixed primary school in Camden, North London for pupils aged 3-11. It includes a full-time nursery class.
