Aston University Engineering Academy and Aston University Sixth Form is a specialist University Technical College established in 2012. We are a heavily oversubscribed school for 13-19 year olds, with 250 Year 9-Year 11 students and 500 sixth-form students, we have become a highly valued and recognised lead centre for Business, Health and Engineering in the Midlands in line with our sponsor Aston University.
As a national lead centre for T-Level Health, including Nursing, Midwifery, Optical Science and Pharmacy (Sept 2025), we are now seeking an experienced Optical Science/Optometry Lecturer/Teacher for September 2024 to support our specialist delivery.
Our Health provision has had extensive investment including a dedicated £25 million Building, £300K Simulation Hospital, industry equipment, technology and training. Thus allowing us to deliver university-level teaching in a secondary environment, supported by Aston University's College of Life and Health Science and the School of Optometry.
This partnership with Aston includes the close location and opportunity to collaborate not only benefits students but also staff, including access to Aston's staff training and post-graduate studies.
This role would also suit a Health professional who is interested in gaining teaching qualifications whilst continuing to work in the industry.
This role would also suit an experienced Biology Teacher with a Biomedical background and a desire to specialise as an Optical Science Lead practitioner

Aston University Engineering Academy (Years 9, 10 and 11) and Aston University Sixth Form (Years 12, 13 and 14) are both housed in our £16.2 million state of the art building located in the heart of the city of Birmingham, next to the Aston University and Innovation Birmingham campuses, with a new multi-million pound extension due to start within the next few months. It is located close to the motorway links and within easy walking of three city centre train stations.
Originally designed for 600 students, AUEA now has 720 students on roll and has now been approved to expand to 800 students. We have a close-knit family of around 40 teachers, and 40 support staff, including administration staff, dedicated HLTA’s/TAs, college leaders (pastoral) and technicians to name a few. AUEA is a proud recipient of the Armed Forces Covenant, Gold Employer Recognition Scheme and has Royal Navy Affiliation.
