Job overview

We are looking for an inspirational and highly successful Director of Faculty to join our Senior Leadership Team. Newcastle Sixth Form College offers an academic A Level curriculum in an inclusive and aspirational environment, where students are supported to go on to exceptional destinations. Over 1300 students choose to study with us, often travelling long distances to do so. As a result of high quality teaching and learning, and a well embedded respect ethos, students at Newcastle Sixth Form College are significantly more likely to progress to university based on starting points than students nationally.

The successful candidate can come from any subject background, but must have a track record of successfully supporting colleagues to provide exceptional teaching and learning that allows students to make strong progress. They will be proactive and self-motivated, with a ‘no barriers to success’ attitude. They will promote the highest standards among staff and students in their faculty, leading a culture of high expectations to ensure all of our students achieve their full potential.

The Director of Faculty will work as part of the college's Senior Leadership Team, supporting the Vice Principal Curriculum to drive on improvements to meet the strategic aims of the college. They will be responsible for the successful implementation of the college’s curriculum intent in their faculty subject areas. Students at the college come from a diverse range of backgrounds, with most coming from areas with significantly below average rates of progression to university. As a result, a key part of this role will be the effective line management of middle leaders and faculty subject staff to ensure the high levels of performance that are vital to the college’s inclusive and aspirational approach. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with our existing Directors of Faculty to ensure that all students have the consistently excellent teaching, learning and assessment to allow them to excel in our ambitious curriculum.

Newcastle Sixth Form College is part of NCG, a national group of colleges promoting social mobility and enabling economic prosperity.

This post would be suited to an ambitious middle leader looking to take a step up, or to an established senior leader looking for a new challenge. We offer a wide range of professional development opportunities through the NCG Leadership Hub, the Sixth Form College Association, and the NPQ framework. This is an exciting opportunity for those who want to build on a strong base within a good college, to deliver truly exceptional education. If you have high expectations of yourself and those you teach and work with, we'd love to hear from you.

We welcome applications from colleagues in schools, sixth form colleges and other post-16 A Level providers. We expect our staff to be positive role models for young people and we celebrate our diverse community, therefore we encourage applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, beliefs or disability. Applicants are encouraged to arrange a visit or Teams call with the Principal by emailing Samantha.huggan@ncgrp.co.uk Interviews will take place on Friday 17th May.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff to share this commitment.

“The feedback I receive is always really helpful and motivating. Lessons are carried out really well to a point where I feel like I'm constantly making progress. My teachers are approachable for any issues I have. They are always aware of who struggles on what and challenge them in class with questions.”
