Job overview

El Limonar International School (ELIS) has been providing a high quality bilingual education for Spanish and International students from Early Years to KS5 in the Murcia and Alicante regions, southern Spain for close to thirty years. With the appointment of a new Principal in 2012, the school underwent significant curriculum change in order to ensure that it remains the region’s top International school for the next quarter century and beyond. The Principal was then appointed Executive Principal for both the ELIS school sites in 2017. In order to build upon our significant achievements to date, the Executive Principal is inviting applications for the post of Key stage 1 Coordinator to start on September 1st 2018. The vacancy exists as part of a commitment to develop a stronger middle leadership team that will improve curricular coordination and drive-up standards.

This post requires a teacher with experience in the delivery of the Key Stage 1 curriculum as well as experience in leading and managing at least some aspects of the staffing, curriculum and pastoral care of Year 1 and 2 students. This post represents an excellent opportunity for a teacher looking to broaden their skills beyond the classroom further as the successful candidate will take a lead in all aspects of KS1.

As the job description and these details suggest, the post-holder would be a senior member of the school’s middle leadership and would have opportunity to provide input into school policy and practice through work with the SLT. The role also will require the development of a basic level of understanding of both the ELIS Cognita business and Cognita Schools Europe strategy. This role could involve some travel during the academic year (particularly to work with ELIS Murcia staff) and the successful candidate would have a reduced teaching load that would enable them to complete their curriculum, leadership and management responsibilities. A candidate who was able to read, write and communicate in both English and Spanish might have an advantage, but it is not essential for this role.

The Key Stage 1 Coordinator role would suit a qualified and experienced teaching professional who:

* Is highly organized, with a logical approach to tasks that leads to their successful completion

* Is a strong communicator both via messages and through the organization and chairing of meetings

* Consistently displays high quality classroom practice and is keen to positively influence the classroom practice of other staff.

* Has a clear understanding of the importance of pastoral care and the pastoral curriculum in the development of young people.

* Will manage (with SLT and Data Managers) the data analysis and academic tracking across Science subjects

* Is firmly committed to the importance of compliance and safeguarding in our school

* Will support SLT with the quality control of reporting to parents and other stakeholders.

El Limonar International School, as part of the Cognita Schools group, is an equal opportunities employer that welcomes applications from all UK qualified teachers with relevant experience including teaching couples. Teachers would be expected to contribute to the extra curricular life of the school and a working knowledge of the Spanish language would be an advantage but is not essential.

The closing date for applications is the 23rd of February, but an appointment could be made before that date in order to secure an outstanding candidate. Applications will only be considered from candidates submitting a completed teacher application form (a copy of which is included in this advert). Candidates are also required to submit an application letter addressed to the school’s Executive Principal, Mr Christopher Eversden, and may also send a C.V. (with photograph) if they wish. Completed applications should be submitted via the 'submit applications' button.

All applications should include the name, email and contact telephone number of three referees, one of which must be the candidate’s current Headteacher. The referees must cover at least the last five years on the candidate’s employment history.

Long-listed candidates will be notified and invited to an initial interview by Skype. Final interview will take place either the UK or in Spain by arrangement.

Cognita Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff, volunteers and other third parties to share this commitment. Safer recruitment practice and pre-employment background checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. Appointment is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for regulated activity (if the candidate has lived in the UK) and/or criminal/police checks for all other countries inhabited (irrespective of whether they worked in those countries).
