Job overview

La Mare de Carteret High School is seeking to appoint with effect from 1st January 2020 or earlier an experienced, enthusiastic, dynamic and well-qualified, specialist graduate teacher with the vision and energy to deliver and model high standards of teaching and learning in English, and to make a full contribution to the ethos, identity and life of the School and to the Guernsey Federation of Secondary Schools.

The three island 11-16 High Schools, the Guernsey Grammar School & Sixth Form Centre (11-18), and St Anne’s School in Alderney work in a federated model of partnership working led by the Director of Education.

The drivers in secondary phase education for this collaborative approach are:

• Quality of educational experience and outcomes

• Equality of opportunity and access

• Efficient and effective use of resources

The person appointed will be employed by the States of Guernsey and will be based at La Mare de Carteret High School. They will be required to maximise opportunities for collaborative working, teaching and learning across key stages and shared professional development across schools. There is an expectation that they will engage in cross-school initiatives which may require working on more than one site to meet the needs of the Education Service.

The post holder will be required to teach throughout Key Stage 3 and 4 and will assist in implementing the aims of the Department, taking responsibility for specific areas of work as agreed with the Head of Department. You will be able to excite and challenge young people and will be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and learning. You are also expected to have excellent communication and management skills, a strong commitment to team work and the ability to maintain productive relationships with staff and young people. We are looking for someone who is passionate about raising learners’ individual achievements and you will have a proven track record in equipping learners to make excellent progress, and the determination to make a difference to the lives of young people.

This is an excellent opportunity to work in an experienced department of subject specialists. The success rate in external examinations has shown upward trend, and the subject is firmly established in the curriculum of the school.

The post provides an ideal opportunity to play a prominent role in middle leadership.
