Job overview

We are looking for an Academic Coordinator for our Primary School for August 2021. This role will have a significantly reduced teaching load. 

The Academic Coordinator will  be a key member of the Primary Leadership Team (PLT) and will take responsibility for overseeing the provision of high-quality academic policy and protocol and assumes responsibility for high quality learning and teaching in the Primary School.

Duties/responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Direction: 

To work with the pedagogical leadership team towards: 

• Ensuring the school promotes international mindedness

• School improvement through self-study for school inspection and authorization processes i.e., KHDA, IB, CIS

• Developing and implementing policies and practices reflecting the school’s commitment to high standards i.e., KHDA, IB, CIS

• Sharing expertise and bringing positive benefits to the school by working with outside agencies and stakeholders including other schools and organizations 

• Reviewing and implementing subject development plans

• The well-being of students

Logistics:

• Collaborate with EY and Secondary deputies to align the approach towards reporting and conferences

• Ensure clear organization, logistics communication and understanding of all academic events, including external assessment, and reporting. 

Curriculum:

Work with the PLT to 

• Support and implement systems and documentation including mapping the transdisciplinary program of inquiry, unit planners, daily planners, policy documents, guidelines for verification and evaluation and continuum initiatives.

• Support guidance for PYP teachers in understanding PYP scope and sequence documents to include committee, team or individual consultation on the elements of the PYP curriculum framework so that they can use a range and balance of teaching strategies, involving students actively in their own learning, address the individual needs of students

• Develop and support PYP curriculum and initiatives

Teaching and Learning:  

Work with the PLT to  

• Support the PYP coordinator in developing a shared understanding and vision for outstanding teaching and learning 

• Raise the quality of teaching and learning in according to the IBPYP and KHDA DSIB standards including mentoring, modelling, team teaching, implementing action plans, observing and consulting 

• Provide regular feedback for colleagues recognizing best practice, supporting their progress against objectives resulting in tangible impact on student learning and progress 

• Support teachers with implementing action plans through an inquiry-based appraisal process 

• Share in the facilitation of whole school events i.e. proposals, invitations, communication, set-up and reflection 

• Facilitate regular community assemblies as a platform for promoting students learning and appreciating student action

Assessment Support:  

• Work in collaboration with the leadership team to review and implement an assessment policy reflecting expectations of the program 

• Work with subject and grade coordinators to monitor the progress made in achieving subject/area plans and targets, evaluating the effect on teaching and learning 

• Work with the leadership team to analyze and synthesize progress and attainment

Teaching and Learning: 

Work with the PLT to 

• Support the PYP coordinator in developing a shared understanding and vision for outstanding teaching and learning

• Enhance the quality of teaching and learning in according to the IBPYP and KHDA DSIB through mentoring, modelling, team teaching, implementing action plans, observing consulting and providing regular and personalized feedback resulting in tangible impact on student learning and progress

• Support teachers with implementing action plans through an inquiry-based appraisal process

• be fully qualified and experienced Primary Class Teacher with a Bachelor in Education Degree and Professional Teaching Qualification

• have a proven track record of delivering outstanding teaching and learning

• have a proven track record of middle leadership in currently having been a subject or grade coordinator or equivalent role

Our Programmes

At SISD we follow the framework of the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme from Pre-Kindergarten (PreKG) to Grade 12 and the Swiss Baccalaureate programme from Grade 6 onwards. The Swiss International Scientific School in Dubai is an IB Continuum World School authorised to offer and teach the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) IB Diploma Programme (DP) and the IB Career-related Programme (CP).

We are also a member of the Swiss Group of Schools, CIS and ECIS.

SISD offers three different streams with an emphasis on offering learners the chance to develop international-mindedness, to broaden their skills and capabilities and to acquire the information needed to access other cultures:

• IB Bilingual English/French (with Arabic)

• IB Bilingual English/German (with Arabic)

• IB with additional languages (French or German with Arabic) and personalised STEAM* programme.
