Job overview

Manchester Academy is part of United Learning, a highly successful national group of schools and academies which share a mission to bring out ‘the best in everyone’ and improve the life chances of the children and young people in their care.

Whilst there is much to be proud of at Manchester Academy, there is still a great deal to do to ensure standards are securely good. Manchester Academy is a school with ambition and continues to grow. The school’s improvement is recognised and reflected in the latest OFSTED inspection report where the school has been commended for its ‘striking’ efforts to galvanise a diverse community. The report will be released in a few days so please take a look once available.

About You

This role will have a particular focus on Year 7 and Year 8 Transition.

We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates, however applications from any background is welcome to apply.

United Learning is ambitious for the school as it builds on its strengths in line with our Framework for Excellence: promoting the best in everyone, powerful knowledge, education with character, leadership in every role and continuous improvement.

Manchester Academy is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a member of our South Manchester Cluster, Manchester Academy is joined with William Hulme’s Grammar School and Stockport Academy. Our cluster model enables high quality, bespoke school improvement and wider opportunities for both staff and students to work collaboratively.

As a Group we can reward our staff better with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits and ultimately the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.

Manchester Academy is highly ambitious for our students and has strong systems to support this progress. Our curriculum and teaching model is based on Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction and we offer excellent support for new staff and early career colleagues. Many of our leaders have trained with us and are now leading change across the Academy. Our ambition for our students is matched by the expertise and passion across our staff team. We have a detailed curriculum across all subjects and dedicate significant time to academic teams to discuss, plan and share planning and resources. As part of one of the most ambitious Trusts in the country, United Learning, we are fortunate to be part of a much bigger network of professional practice which complements the curriculum leadership within the Academy. Opportunities are not just focused around our academic curriculum; at Manchester Academy, we firmly believe there is more to a good education than excellent exam grades which is why we are committed to providing an Education with Character.
