The Fernwood Academy Trust (a standalone Academy Trust) is seeking to appoint a Company Secretary/ Clerk to the Governing Body to support the work of the Trust, Governing Body and its Committees. The role involves attendance at all meetings of the Trust, Governing Body and Committees (usually in the evening), providing advice on all governance related matters and the preparation of agenda, reports and minutes and associated correspondence. In addition, the post holder will manage all elections to Governor categories where this is necessary and be responsible for all Governor membership records.

The Company Secretary aspects of the role do not relate to financial and accounting duties which are carried out by a Chief Financial Officer, but are in respect of record keeping at Companies House.

Applications are sought from persons with experience and knowledge of the professional school Governing Body clerking role. It would be desirable (but not essential) for that experience to be in an Academy setting, but applications would be considered from persons whose experience related to Clerking maintained school Governing Bodies.

The role is assessed as the equivalent of 2 days per week, term time only, and the majority of the role can be carried out at home. It is important to be aware that flexibility is required in this respect.

The retiring post holder will be available to provide full transitionary support to the successful candidate during the 2020 summer term.

The Fernwood School is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational, 11-16 academy, situated in Wollaton in Nottingham. The school has been recognised by Ofsted and the Department for Education for excellent academic standards and outstanding care and discipline. It achieved Leading Edge status for excellent practice in 2004. There are 1,016 students on the school roll.
