Values and vision
The Fernwood School aims to provide an excellent education in a safe, well-disciplined, caring environment. It believes in educating the whole child, and a wealth of opportunities are available for students to extend their learning beyond the classroom. Teachers also believe each child is unique and precious.
The school has very high expectations of all. Hard work, self-discipline, courtesy and respect are all key values. At the heart of the ethos are equality of opportunity, shared understanding, respect and tolerance for each other’s differences and needs.
The Fernwood School became a Specialist Technology College in 2005 and a Specialist School in Mathematics and Science in 2010. It is also a recognised centre of excellence for Languages, Expressive Arts and Sport.
“This is an outstanding school in all aspects. It is successful in living up to its motto of ‘high achievement with care and discipline for all’. Much of this success is because the excellent leadership of the school at all levels supports high quality teaching. Teachers interest, motivate and engage students extremely well in learning. They have high expectations of what each student can achieve. Consequently, students make exceptional progress.”
