About secondary schools
Secondary schools in England and Wales take pupils aged between 11 and 16. Children aged 11-14 (Year 7,8 and 9) are taught using the National Curriculum Key Stage 3, while those aged between 14-16 (Year 10 and 11) are taught using Key Stage 4. At the end of Year 11 most schools assess pupils using the GCSE examinations.
